While visiting Ottawa, as I frequently do now, I went with a friend to the Blue Cactus for dinner. We arrived around 6:30 and the place wasn't too full. By 7:00pm there was a line for dinner!!! (a seriously long line up)

The food was great. I didn't have the nachos but from what I hear from other people they are the best you'll ever taste. I will also agree with the previous review that the drinks are fantastic. I had a Sangria which came in what looked like a bowl (and I didn't even cactus size it) and was filled (i mean filled) with fresh fruit. It tasted great and was worth each and every dollar I spent on it (forget the alcohol, the fresh fruit alone covered the cost!)

I must say for a popular place, with a line up out the door, it was nice not to be rushed by the staff. I'm used to being in Toronto where you get the subtle hints that "okay your done, we've got a line, get going" from the staff. There was none of that here which made you spend more money just because you were relaxed. Next time I am in Ottawa I will definitely try to go to this restaurant again!

This place is packed with people. My friend and I went at about 6:00 ( which for me is early for dinner) and there were tons for people. Make sure you don't arrive too late for dinner here. So far I have to say it was the best food that I've had so far in Ottawa. The food was enjoyable. The Blue cactus is a great place for a good long conversation, there isn't any rush.

The Blue Cactus is a hip, trendy, fun place to be, wheather it's lunch time or dinner. It's right in the Byward Market and hard to miss.

My main complaint however, is that since it's so good, everyone goes there, and it can be sometimes hard to get a table. Go early if you can, and beat the rush, because this really is a great South Western restaurant to go to. Their drinks are really good too (I say "Cactus-size" them because you might as well spend the little extra). Just thinking about this place makes me want to go!

When I go, I feel the need to be a bit dressed up because this is an upscale place. Jeans will do (the darker the better I thnk), but it's fun to get dressed up sometimes.
