Elle.com has posted an interesting article on 25 household product and their uses for fashion/beauty. Have you tried any of these? I really want to try the old stockings trick... I'm not sure if I could pull it off however.

I've heard about putting egg in your hair, but I couldn't remember what the purpose was (I had no idea it had something to do with straightening it)

I love the picture of the stockings... but I don't think this is exactly how they would turn out it I tried it.

Egg=yuk on Feb 18, 2011 @ 12:03 pm

Actually my mom swears by doing egg hair and face masks, and it just grosses me out. I don't like eggs that much as it is (unless it's in Pad Thai), the thought of putting raw egg anywhere near my skin creeps me out.

nice! on Feb 18, 2011 @ 12:05 pm

I've heard of some of these but some others are really clever!

I like the stockings as a shrug look but I doubt I would make them look as cool as the ones at the Monique Lhuillier show.

I also really like the idea of using old buttons to keep earrings together - genius!

Very cool ideas!! I love the button earring organizers, that's something I will definitely try. I've heard the egg-head thing is good for fighting dandruff, but wouldn't it be gloopy? Egg has such a liquid gloopy type consistency, I think I'd be a stinking mess if I tried it. I actually like all the ideas, well maybe not the antacid one, mainly 'cuz I have a bathroom-o-phobia. My other half will have to try it out and I'll let you guys know how it goes ;-)

As for the really chic shrugs; I don't think the stocking shrug will look as cool on me as it does on them. I'm pretty sure that on me, It will look like I stuffed my arms into stockings and I'm not sure if I'm ready for that eccentric look just yet..

I have been using the egg whites mask since I was 13. It helps with my oily skin, and helped with zits. The egg yolks, I use for my hair, leaves it nice and soft. My mom's friend, a beautician recommends putting mayo into hair, leaving it for about 20 min with a cap on and washing it off with shampoo and condition as usual. The stuff smells, bit when washed away, the hair feels so soft.

NIfty ideas from Elle... on Feb 21, 2011 @ 01:49 am

The stocking idea is so innovative, but you'd have to be careful of which stocking you use. I know some of them have a patch near the crotch, and that would be super unflattering on your back
I love the earring-button organizer idea! i think having a little jar just full of earrings put through buttons is so cute!

Mayo on Feb 22, 2011 @ 04:25 pm

I agree debois, the mayo really works! But you're right you have to shampoo and conditioner well after leaving it in your hair. The first time I tried it I don't think I got it all out because my hair felt weighed down and dirty after I dried it.

Try clarifying shampoo on Feb 23, 2011 @ 02:40 am

The first time I tried it, my hair felt so greasy too, I couldn't bear it! I had to rewash my hair about 2 more times! Now, every time I use the mayo, I use a clarifying shampoo with it. I use Suave clarifying shampoo, it is a clear bottle with blue shampoo in it lol. Gets all the oils out. Minty shampoos do wonders as well :)

I think that I am going to walk around a richer girl. A lot of these things are around the house. You can use baking soda and water as a good cleanser.
