Best cheap makeup products

I have recently started trying to get into makeup by watching tutorials and reading makeup blogs however I do not have a whole lot of money to spend on makeup such as MAC, smashbox, benefit, and tarte. Was hoping to find the best products I can use in my daily makeup routine that are affordable.

I think a lot of people on this site sigh up for Ipsy to try different makeup products that are affordable, so you can try a variety.

I don't buy much makeup, but when I do, I will splurge on makeup such as the ones you said, just because I don't buy it often. Hopefully we can hear from others with affordable ones!

Cheapies & Splurges

Hi Taryn, there's so many awesome dupes out there! You don't always have to spend a lot of $ on makeup. Some of the cheaper brands are stepping up their game. There's always going to be items worth the splurge (you have to have the right foundation, for example) but there are lots of brands that are less expensive than others and are still good quality. I find some of the cheapies (E.L.F., NYC, Essence, Hard Candy to name a few) have some great products. Also, some popular drugstore brands (Rimmel, Maybelline, Cover Girl, Revlon, etc.) are really awesome; right now I'm LOVING NYX!!!
Liner, brow powder, mascara, translucent powder, lipstick, lip gloss, eyebrow pencils, fake eyelashes, lip liner, blush, bronzer, micellar water, makeup remover, makeup wipes, nail polish, eyebrow gel, highlighter, contour, sunscreen, face masks, tweezers, eyelash curler, makeup sponges, liquid liner - all these can be less expensive drugstore brands imo.
The items to splurge on are foundation, concealer, primer, undereye gels/ depuffer, red lipstick (THE perfect one), moisturizer, exfoliator, makeup brushes & skin colored powder imo. To me these items are so important because of the individual color and formula that is right for your individual skin & problem areas and skintone. Brushes because the quality dictates the application of the products. That being said you can find decent quality brushes and sponges that won't break the bank. To me, moisturizer is so important because it's the only skin you have so you better take care of it!
It took me until just last year to really allow myself to splurge on the PERFECT foundation for me (Dior Star 10). It's way too expensive but it's worth every penny because it is absolutely perfect for my skin in every way. Same with concealer and skin colored powder. Once I found the perfect ones I can't go back to those that are "just okay". I also have to have a great moisturizer, exfoliator and other skincare products because this is the only skin I have and I want to take care of it as best as I can. I find each decade I enter there is a new problem area (crows feet, adult acne, ugh!!). I also splurge on perfume (my signature scent is Chanel No.5) and brushes. I found once I used really good brushes it makes the application of makeup so much better, especially foundation and concealer. Warm fingers and decent makeup sponges also do the trick.
I kind of got off your original topic because I love makeup so much, sorry :)
Just to reiterate, I think there are so many of the above items you can buy that are decent quality without breaking the bank. I would advise to try some NYX products. I personally love the brand but I know others find it hit or miss. You will really have to get out there and try some cheaper brands and see if they work for you. E.L.F. is quite popular (I find it hit or miss) but a lot of people love it and they have a ton of products. So even if it's not for you, it's not so bad if you end up throwing out a $0.99 eye pencil or lipstick.
Also, there are tons of sites for freebies, some affordable beauty box subscriptions (I love Ipsy), and of course Chick Advisor! Hopefully you can get some campaigns and build your makeup "wardrobe"!
Good luck with your purchases and most importantly, it's makeup: HAVE FUN with it!! :)

I personally love E.L.F., Wet n Wild and Essence makeup. These are all available in Canada at different locations. You can find Wet N Wild at Walmart and Superstore, ELF at Superstore and Essence at Shoppers. These are great brands with awesome products which are dupes for higher end makeup. There are also great drugstore dupe videos you can find on Youtube!
