So I've been meaning to get myself 'Brazilian'-ed down there, but I'm unsure if I should start off with shaving or waxing.
I do wax my legs and underarms, and to tell you the truth, they don't hurt. I do like the low maintenance and how fast I can get it done.
So any tips or recommendations?? :)

Shaving is a major no-no on Jul 09, 2010 @ 09:04 am
Shaving achieves the opposite goal. While some will say "it makes hair grow faster" that's actually not true at all. What you're doing is essentially trimming it back, leaving the healthy shaft perfectly content to grow and grow again. It's like trimming your hair - removing the split ends creates a healthier and stronger shaft end which has nothing to do with the root area.
And that's the point. Waxing/epilating deals with the root. Pluck the hair out often enough and it grows back weaker and weaker each time. Some hair may even not grow back at all.
Having said that, it's going to be difficult for the first while as you experience ingrown hairs you don't have with shaving. Eventually though, it will be much better. Since you wax your armpits and legs, you probably know what I mean.
Don't shave - that's probably the worst thing you could do. Go ahead and wax if you want, but I'd suggest you let them do the Brazilly first. They'll do a better job and then your at-home follow up will be that much easier.
Agree, no shaving! on Jul 09, 2010 @ 04:11 pm
First I started trimming "down there" and eventually went to shaving because that's what I do everywhere else but that was horrible. It'd grow back thicker and the ingrown hairs are so crappy.
I found waxing to be pretty painful but a quick sharp pain and only in certain areas. It takes longer to grow back and it's not as thick.
I guess I'm alone on this because I love to shave "down there" on Jul 09, 2010 @ 06:19 pm
In my experience no matter where I have gone and no matter how many times (and there have been alot of times) getting a brazilian wax is always painful and a few times my skin has peeled almost like a sunburn because the woman who was doing it probably didn't know what she was doing and burned me. Even when I see women on tv getting it done they always shriek in pain, and no one I know has been brave enough to do it. So honestly I always opt for shaving down there. I have become quite good at it because I do all the time. There are a few tricks to getting it right that I have learned through trial and error. Always use a good razor and stay away from disposables!! I have used so many razors even the girly ones and I always love the results that a mans razor gives me so I use the mach 3 which I love. You want to make sure you open up your pores before you begin shaving because it will def hurt if you don't and I find that opening up your pores before you begin always keeps me from getting ingrown hairs. So to ipen up your pores let the warm water hit the area for a few minutes, you can shower and shave other parts or wash your hair while you're waiting for the steam to do it's job. If you have a detachable shower head I like to get it close to my hair and just let the hot water hit it for a few minutes. I like to use a creamy soap to shave I use oil of olay bar soap and I work it into a lather all over the hair. I like to shave up because it gets a closer shave, but I am so use to it so I would suggest shaving down the first time for you, its honestly really easy but you really have to have the right razor and def want to take the time to let the hot water hit the hair so it can open up your pores and soften the hair before you shave. It is a must I have gotten lazy and tried to rush into shaving and not use the proper razor and skip the hot water and I paid for it with painful ingrown hairs, so I am so glad I found what works and I love the results every time. Obviously it doesn't last as long as waxing, but I can do it anytime I want, I don't have to leave my house or take time out to go and get it done and I like the results. Hope this works and let us know what you decide on :)

Thanks a lot for the tips guys! I'm probably going to try it out next week :).
Wish me luck! :P
Do we need to remove the hair? on Jul 10, 2010 @ 02:19 am
I find it funny in this day and age... it appears as if almost all women remove all the hair down there. But is there something wrong with going natural?
Brazilian waxing is expensive too. And ladies, do you expect your men to also wax/shave/groom their parts?
Groomed is good :D on Jul 10, 2010 @ 12:48 pm
I personally just don't like hair anywhere but on the top my my head and of course my eyebrows. Everywhere else (with the exception of down there) I have kept nice and smooth :P
I do think that guys should trim the hair under their arms and down there to keep everything neat. A boyzillian is a bit much for me and it would be P-A-I-N-F-U-L for them, so I would never ask them to do that!
keep it under control people on Jul 10, 2010 @ 03:56 pm
seriously, I think it's gross if you don't keep it cleaned up down there. Especially if I were to be intimate with my guy I would want to always have it nice and well kept and def vice versa. I can understand not wanting to get rid of it all so at least trim it up:)
Bliss' Philips Bikini set on Jul 10, 2010 @ 09:38 pm
I use this product from Bliss spa and I love it. I use the Epilator...everywhere...yes, it's a bit painful...it's like plucking when you pluch your eyebrows, just on more sensitive areas. I have not had any problems with ingrown hairs, and I find it very effective. I don't have hair on my legs and very little under my arms(I am very lucky, I know.) But the Bliss Spa epilator/shaver/trimmer/shaper is a great investment, in my opinion.

what if u had no bf and have no reason to wear bikini.... would you still bother to groom? like when it's winter and u "forget" to shave ur legs... LOL
I understand! on Jul 11, 2010 @ 10:19 pm
Oh hahaha I totally get what you're saying! I'm lucky because my hair doesn't grow fast and I don't have a bunch of hair, but during the wintertime, I definitely "forget" haha!
