My Beauty Regimen

Yesterday I was talking to Mike (my fiancé) on the phone and he informed me that he was  ‘weirded’ out by my sparkly nails in the article for nail strips - 2 reactions to this:
1) I am now aware he frequents ChickAdvisor more often than I thought
2) Since when do my nails weird people out? He said he like the style last weekend.

So, I decided to clarify with him what exactly he was ‘weirded’ out by. He said he just couldn't wrap his brain around how they worked and looking at the step by step images made him squirm. He proceeded to tell me that he "really can't stand any of my morning beauty routines" and he would rather it "remain a mystery how I emerge from the room looking beautiful" in the morning.

I'm not really sure how to take this news, I guess I never thought about how foreign some of our make-up techniques and tools are to men and how some of our stuff like eyelash curlers and mascara wands could really freak some of them out.

So I'm curious; has a guy ever told you that he's freak out by your beauty regime?

Thanks funny! What does Mike think about the hair extensions?

No one has ever told me they are weirded out by my beauty routine but that doesn't mean they aren't thinking it! I've straightened my hair in front of my boyfriend - and when I brush out my hair before using the flat iron it is quite beastly. He never said he was weirded out but now I think I will ask him.....

I don't know!

Know I'm afraid to ask! haha, I think all of my girly habits are fine with him he has just decided not to try to understand me.
That desciption of your hair just made me think of Monica in an episode of Friends after she took her beads out and she had this giant mess of hair.

too funny!

This is really hilarious! My hubby hasn't said anything, but he does act over-the-top perplexed about the variety of products I need to get ready.

For example:

In the shower - regular body wash, exfoliating body wash, regular shampoo, regular conditioner, deep conditioner, face wash, razor, special occasion body wash (read here: the expensive stuff I don't use every day).

In my makeup cupboard - mascara, eyelash serum, eyelash curler, eyeshadow primer, eyeshadow, pencil eyeliner, liquid eyeliner, liquid foundation, powder foundation, blush, cream blush, lipstick, lipgloss, lipbalm, concealer, undereye treatment, night cream, day cream, anti-wrinkle serum, etc etc etc. And most of these items I (of course) have more than one of.

I haven't even started on my haircare.

I don't consider myself a real makeup junkie, and to be sure my job here at ChickAdvisor has inflated my stash. But I think on the whole, I don't have so terribly much and I usually only use a fraction of it during any given primping session.

But my hubby just grins at me like I'm Alicia Silverstone in 'Clueless' and leaves the room shaking his head. Hardy har.

Haha Mamaluv!

The beauty of working for ChickAdvisor is that you can blame it on the job!

"I wish we could leave the house now too, but I have to finish working" (as you apply eyeliner)

You got it!

Looking good is just part of the job!

He's really confused when I spend an hour trying on lipsticks, eyeshadows and foot creams "for my job".

"How is that 'for your job'?" he asks, hooking his fingers into airquotes.

I just smile slyly and continue primping.

Oh, I tell you, it's a tough tough job. ;)

It's true! If there is anything I've learned it's that the beauty industry is not a 9 - 5 job!

@mumaluv - I think a lot of women have 10X more beauty products than they actually use. I hate tossing things so I still hold on to old shades and half used things because I think "well what if I need this later?" Or those special products that you only like to use when you feel like pampering yourself.

he's definitely curious......

I have seen him peeking when I am applying makeup and shaping my brows.

He also has asked for advice about dry skin and I help him out with his nails every once in awhile.....

He may think some of the things I do are weird.....I can also say that he has said some things are 'not necessary'. That's mostly about the amount of makeup I have or my perfumes.

I like that he pays attention to what I do!

@ Meredithk

That's adorable! Even though I pluck my brows almost daily I still find myself in a bit of "awe" watching other people do it - something about voluntarily putting a small sharp metal object near your eye just seems... off.
