Once again, I need your help ladies. Funny how we can appreciate advice from peope we've never met in person?
Last night I went to my hair stylist just for a quick bang trim. We got to talking and she told me how the hair show for Redken is in just a couple weeks and they still need some models. You get a makeover valued at $400 plus a gift bag valued at $200. It sounds like it'd be so fun and it's something I've always wanted to try! The only thing I'm worried about is how much "change" I would have done to my hair. I don't want anyting too drastic. So she said if you let the stylist who gets you know your limitations, they will try to stay within your wishes. And worst comes to worst, you can back out and say it's not for you.
I am very interested and very excited, plus you get a free hair makeover! What girl wouldn't want that?! AND a Redken gift bag?! Yes please! I just don't want to end up with wild hair.
My question is, have any of you (or a friend) had an experience with a hair show or something similar? Was it a good experience and would you do it again?

Typically for these things the stylists require a certain amount of control so expect that if you do this, they will want to make more changes than your stylist is suggesting. If all they are going to do is give your hair a trim, it doesn't make for a very compelling makeover show, right? Likely they will want to do something more drastic that showcases their talent. However, if your stylist insists you can walk away if you don't like their plan then it's worth a shot! Definitely share the pictures if they post them anywhere!
It's just hair, right? on Apr 15, 2011 @ 10:45 am
I have never been invited to take part in something like this, but I have done many different things to my hair. My thinking is that eventually it'll grow out and and I can recut it again. Luckily, my hair grows fairly fast so I have sympathy for those whose does not.
I'd say go for it! They're trying to showcase their talent and will try to make you look amazing - worst case scenario is that they'll give you a cut you're not wild about, but chances are it won't look terrible.

I say go for it -- it'll be fun! Absolute worst case scenerio is you're stuck wearing a hat for a while (which isn't such a bad thing anyway).
I had a friend who did this a few years ago. They gave her a really funky cut so after the show her stylist cut it into something more wearable. She had shorter bangs than she would have liked but she just wore a hairband or used pins.
Another thing to note is that not everyone will get a drastic cut. These shows are also about the styling, so some stylists may do less cutting and focus more on the style (especially for updos).

This sounds like a great opportunity!
I have been thinking about cutting all my hair off! I'd love a chance to try this!
Is colour involved too? Or just a cut?
Let us know how it goes! And photos would be great! :)

Sounds like a really fun experience. I would love for someone to play with my hair and do something cool with it!
I really doubt it will look terrible (you might not love it because YOU don't like the style) but it won't be a BAD cut, it's for a hair show after all so you're supposed to look fantastic!
They're So much fun! on Apr 15, 2011 @ 03:54 pm
I've been to a show or two and have known other stylists to participate. And I've never seen them do anything too out there where the model has looked really bad. It is so much fun to watch and be a part of, I really recommend it especially if you're getting a lot of free stuff lol. But like others have said just really tell the person styling you, what you are comfortable with and what colours, hair length you would absolutely HATE. And worst thing to happen you would just have to colour over what the person did.
Seriously go for it! :)
Yay I'm so excited! on Apr 16, 2011 @ 11:34 am
Thanks for all your input! I am definitely going to go for it. I am very excited! Hair can always grow back and colour can be fixed. Even then, I doubt it'll come to that. I'll post pictures :)
have done this before and recommend.... on Apr 16, 2011 @ 07:43 pm
I used to do this for a friend of mine while she was 'apprenticing' at a high-end salon. I do recommend it, it's a ton of fun and you get (usually) a great cut and/or color and sometimes product. Besides, it's hair-so if you really hate it, it will grow back!
Also on a side note....since you talked up the Redken people....maybe you could talk to Ali/Mama/Siofan/Lauren about a little Redken/ChickAdvisor collab-o? That might be fun too! This is the perfect place to reach a large volume of women!
