Shellac nail polish

I've been playing with the idea of trying Shellac nail polish, mostly due to my hearing it'll last a bit longer than your usual nail polish.

But after reading up on how they have to remove it (having to put an acetone soaked cotton balls with foil around your fingernails for 10 mins) it kinda turned me off!

I'm worried that since the nail can't really breathe, that the nail may become really weak!

And the idea of putting shellac, which typically goes on furniture as a sealer, kinda makes me wonder how healthy it is!

Anyone have good/bad shellac experiences?

I love Shellac.....

In fact, I now only wear gel based polishes/lacquers-because I have the ability to completely destroy a manicure within 10 minutes. I have heard many things about Shellac-and I knew about the foil. I don't consider it a bad thing-there's a reason that the product stays on. My nails are quite strong.

However, that being said-I do have an 'at-home' gel kit. One complaint I have heard about Shellac is that it takes off the top layer of your nail. I don't necessarily think that has happened to me. I use my at home kit and love it.

At the end of the day, It's personal preference-acetone probably isn't a good thing. But...you would use it as polish remover anyway right?

i love shellac

Shellac is great!! I use to wear gel nails for years. but recently i became allergic to an ingredient in the gel :( so i started to shellac. and i fell in LOVE. A lot of people don't like the use of the acetone (I'm not a fan) but it's much better on your nails then picking gels off (which a lot of people does). I find that acetone dries my skin out but with a little hair cream makes them all smooth again. And i wish shellac had more colors. but you can play with them and make your own. So i highly suggest shellac :)

i have cnd shellac nail polish and also the uv lamp and do shellac at home. i just started doing this on my own cause i find doing it at the salon is getting to be expensive. im still learning but i love it. it is cheaper and does last long. what i do is ill do my nails and once i take them off i let my nails breath for about a week without any nail polish. then ill do shellac again. my nails seem to be fine.
