Birthday gift for the new man

So what do you buy a man for his birthday when you have only been dating him for a few months? I am at a loss. He is in his early thirties. What do you think?

I never know what to buy, but since it is a new relationship I wouldn't go over the top just yet. I would probably make him a nice dinner and buy him a cool shirt or something. If you went out and bought him an xbox it would be too much I think.

HAHAH Xbox....

...counterproductive...then you are just left with a man glued even further to the TV! hahahhahah! Your ideas sound good. :o)

As soon as the xbox enters the relationship it's all downhill from there ;) ha ha! Alex really wants one though.

bake a cake

I like misschickie's idea of making dinner. But you should top it off w/ baking him a cake. Discretely find out what he likes (chocolate, vanilla, cheesecake, etc ...) then go w/ it! Do the candles! Write his name on top! The whole bit. Mmmmmm, I *love* birthday cake!

lol - Xbox...

I though Cam's first Xbox was going to be the end of us...now, 4 years and 3 versions of Halo later...now I just ask for widow gifts whenever he gets excited about a new game :)

I agree - keep it fun and light - a shirt or a DVD box set and a nice dinner out is probably sufficient.

Oh haha!

I forgot I made this post awhile back....how ironic, he recently got a PS3 (not from me but from himself)...and yes....it has been VERY difficult to pry the controller from his grip once he has hit the couch! LOL!

Sheesh - I should really learn to look at dates on these posts before replying. Ah well - this is one of those topics that could live on foreevr and still be helpful.

Mine has recently been talking about adding a Wii to the living room...now, THAT is something he might have trouble prying out of MY hands! :P

....at least with a Wii you can both play and not be glued to the couch! This is a PS3 with one control and it is attached to the main TV...which means there are now TV wars or I end up stuck in my room watching my shows on the little itty bitty tv!!!!

you have my sympathies..the xbox is on our big main TV...I end up spending every sunday in our bedroom to escape the shooting.

tee hee

Tomorrow is my guy's birthday and he spent all of last night trying to guess what it is! He knows I ordered a book he wanted, but I just feel it is such a boring choice - a book of philosophy as a birthday present?! Plus it won't get here on time, so I went out and am putting together a basket of things he enjoys but we never buy because they are not in our price range - like expensive goat cheeses, pate etc. I also got him 2 tiramisu cakes (I was not about to attempt to make it, probably cheaper to buy than all the ingredients!) and a few cans of his favourite imported beer. He is quite excited because he is completely stumped at to what I got him.

And yes, he did guess a Wii, and seemed so excited at the thought of getting a Wii I almost felt bad about what I got him...but I agree with you ladies on this one, I have had boyfriends addicted to computer games, and it wasn't pretty! He got me jewelry and a cake for my birthday, this seems on par, right?

Oh, and I am also cooking a dinner for him, I managed to find some goat meat and am slow cooking it for extra tenderness!!!!
