Gals, have any of you ever heard of, read about, or come across a 'Ganguro' girl??

Basically, Ganguro in Japanese means "Black Face" and this look is actually very popular amongst many of young women in Japan today.

Scared of a little bronzer? Then skip this look since it calls for LOTS of bronzer -- layers and layers of bronzer.  White lipstick and eyeshadow as well as blonde/orange hair are also a major components of this look.

Definitely not for those with conservative taste! ;-)

Any thoughts??  Interesting is definitely the operative word in describing this look.  So, Snooki, step down from your tan throne, the Ganguro girls are here!

ohh no thanks on Dec 13, 2010 @ 04:45 pm

I have never heard of this, but I can safely say I'm not a good candidate for that look!

Same here on Dec 13, 2010 @ 05:03 pm

I'm really not seeing what the appeal is to this look, but there are just way too many things going on at once.

Is this what you're talking about?

Um... on Dec 13, 2010 @ 05:12 pm I've never seen this before. Are the women using self-tanner, paint, or liquid bronzer? I wonder who/what was the inspiration for this look.

Great, if Clown is the look you are going for on Dec 13, 2010 @ 05:24 pm

I thought this was a joke but apparently not. Here's a picture from Wikipedia:

What I would like to know is who started this and why???

what the.....? on Dec 13, 2010 @ 05:30 pm

I have never ever seen anything like this.....

Are these the girls they put out on the street to hand out flyers? I know they do that in Asia...they stick girls out in front of a store to entice men to come inside. Is that what this is?

Is this for real? Good god, that is ugly.

I think I found the inspiration on Dec 13, 2010 @ 05:39 pm

it all makes sense now...anyone else see the resemblance??

LOL that is hilarious oendrila, I totally agree with you! It honestly seems like they are patronizing popular western fashion/culture, (super tanned, bleached hair, emphasized eyes and lips, etc).

Wow on Dec 13, 2010 @ 09:19 pm

The amount of bronzer on these ladies face just looks so uncomfortable! It must be quite the ordeal to wipe the makeup off there face lol

eeek! on Dec 15, 2010 @ 01:40 pm

This look is ridiculous!!!

Good point though Oendrila, it probably is a bit of an ode to Western culture.

I kind of wish I saw this before Halloween....
