good tailor in Toronto?

So until sewing becomes COMPLETELY idiot-proof, I'll take my pants that need altering to the professionals.
Can anyone recommend a place that's good and inexpensive to get pants altered (i.e. waist taken in, pants hemmed?)

Good question

I've been wondering the same myself. I go to Salstyle Alterations at the Eaton Center (lowest level). The prices are ok. It's around $12 for a hem or $20 for a European hem and they also do other alterations. I got another dress altered there (taken in at the sides and on the straps) and that was around $30ish.

Compared to other places they aren't cheap, but they do a good job and I have ruined good jeans taking them somewhere cheap to save $3 and it just isn't worth it.

Salstyle Alterations 416.597.8585

I'd be interested to hear where others go.

Yes, salstyle too!
They have a proper fitting room, so they measure themselves what needs to be done.

I go to Rita's Alterations on Avenue Rd. at the back of Tony's Barber Shop (http://www.shopsonavenue.com/soa_1730.html). Rita is a power-house with reasonable prices and fast turnaround.

Stitch It

I normally go to Stitch It in Fairview Mall...I think Salstyle is their competitor... I am short so I always have to get half a foot chopped off the end up of my pants/jeans etc. I swear these people know me by name now! hahaha! Anyway, I have been to Salstyle as well when Stitch It could not do my pants in an hour. I was happy with the results of both places. Stitch It is about $10 a normal hem $15 plus tax for a Eurohem.

for more demanding alterations

Studio Kim on King West (King & Techumseth) is a great place to take your nicer clothes. I recently got my Elie Tahari cocktail dress hemmed there. It required very delicate hand stitching and Kim did a beautiful job. It was well worth the $24 I paid. I think eurohem for jeans is $8 plus tax there.

Thanks samuraiya! Based on your recommendation I dropped off a new top there yesterday. It's a really easy fix, just shortening the straps but it was swamped in there. I get the sense she is quite popular! She is charging me $8 to shorten the straps.

hope it works out for you too

No problem MC. Keep me posted on her workmanship. Btw, is $8 reasonable? I can't tell cuz I'm lucky enough to have a mother who's willing to do the more simple alterations!

I don't know

I have no skill in sewing so while the job will probably take her under 30 seconds I would butcher it myself. She probably could have done it for $5 but I'm ok with it.

How about in Ottawa?

I'm constantly trying to learn about places to go to in Ottawa...

If anyone with ideas/knowledge on this happens to read this message, please post :)

Rocks! She did awesome! Every time I've gone there it has been busy. She is obviously popular for a good reason!
