Hello Kitty or Goodbye Kitty?

Hi all. My wonderful husband would like to get me a ceramic watch for my (29th) birthday. He stumbled upon these:

He thinks either #1 (white) or #3 (black) would be perfect for me, but he decided to ask my opinion before shelling out that kind of money.

I'm torn. I think they are adorable, but I worry that they may be seen as childish. Please, what is your input? And, do you prefer the black or the white? (Hubby and I are leaning towards the black if I do decide to get one.)

Thank you : ))

I like the black one

I think the black lends sophistication to the piece. As far as childish/not childish, I guess you could look at it in a different way.

Are you an ironic sort of person? Do you like Hello Kitty at face value, or are you trying to make a statement (that, of course, not everyone will clue into)? Do you cling to younger-targeted items because next year brings the big "30"?

There would be absolutely nothing wrong with that, and you need to express yourself for the sake of expression. My cousin makes jewelry out of food items and I think they look... interesting. Her last piece was made out of a sunny-side-up egg. She wears it purposely to (a) showcase her artistic talent (she has a degree in Fine Arts for sculpture) and (b) to provoke reactions/conversation piece. She doesn't wear it because she thinks it's pretty.

If you are a whimsical person, it probably suits your persona perfectly. I'm practical to a fault and would probably never buy that for me - but then I'm a fan of Van Gogh and Klimt and so have a darker soul artistically ;)

Go with your gut

I think they are cute. White will get dirtier than a black watch even though it's not made of plastic. However, you said you were concerned they look childish and I tend to agree. I think if you feel that way now, you won't wear it for as long as you might if if was something a bit more sophisticated.

When it comes to pricier things, I'd recommend sticking with classics that you can get a lot of use out of. Cheaper items are great when you are looking for something of the moment.

Bye Bye Kitty!

Thank you so much ladies! Reading your thoughts has helped me to make up my mind.

Approaching my thirties hasn't hit me yet MamaLuv, but I'm anticipating (and dreading that) it will at some point.

I've decided against the Hello Kitty watch. Even though I am a child-at-heart, I agree with Ali that I would probably get more use out of a more classic style.

It's hard to choose just one.
These are the two that I am now considering:
Michael Kors (MKS10_Y0A5N -white) and TechnoMarine (DTLCCB02C -black)

Since my husband wants it to be a b-day gift, I'll leave the final decision up to him - so it's at least sort of a surprise.

Knowing him, I'll probably get both : )

Love the Michael Kors

I just got a black and gold one similar to that and I love it. I didn't think I'd like such a big watch on my wrist but I love it and have been wearing it a lot. Happy Birthday!
