9 Year Old Willow Smith

I just saw the new music video for Will Smith's 9 year old daughter Willow's song "Whip My Hair".

I can't believe she is 9 years old!  I admit I enjoyed the song and the video and I suppose as the daughter of a celebrity couple she wouldn't have led such a normal childhood anyway, but making music videos at 9 years old just seems...young!

if she were my child...

.. I would say it's too young. Sure, it's cute and a bouncy song, but I don't know. 3rd graders (or however old she is) should be playing with skipping ropes and reading Captain Underpants.

But I'm also not really in favour of child entertainers as a whole - whether actors, singers, or America's Got Talent. Childhood is so short to begin with. No one should have to start stressing about a career at that age.

Way too young

I was actually surprised when I watched this video, she really doesn't look like she's 9. She looks A LOT like her dad, too.

It seems to me like they have put their kids on the spot light way too soon and like you said, Cathy, they wouldn't have led a normal childhood anyways but still! They would've most likely not gotten into movies and music so quickly if their parents weren't famous, which I can only assume they didn't really work as hard for it being that they are so young.

oh myyyy has the girl got attitude! dang! it's actually really good!!
the smith kids have inherited crazy talent! it's in the genes :)

I just hope she doesn't turn rotten apple like all the other young stars...

Im not surprised at all -

with 2 famous parents and her older bro acting since he was 7 yr old....it was only a matter of time.
She definitely looks 9 though and I think Daddy Will is smart enough (and well experienced) to know when it would be unhealthy for Willow to do a project.

She cute and reminds me of how I loved Shirley Temple, Ron Howard and other child actors. These kids only seem to get into trouble when the parents are a mess to being with. Like Drew Barrymores Mom taking her clubbing or Lindsey Lohans wacky folks.

I saw part of an episode of Oprah and she had the whole Smith family as guests. It was amazing to see how close they are as a family, how they support each other and the vision they have as a family. I remember they were saying that the family was in China for the Karate Kid movie but the parents would fly back home every week to see their other son's football games (he didn't go).

They also mentioned how the parents keep the kids grounded. I remember Will said that he always reminds his kids that he and mom are rich, not them :P

Smith family love

Of course I'm basing this on what I see in the media, but I just love the whole family. Have been a big fan of Will since forever and they do seem (key word there!) grounded.

I too hope that they will keep their kids on track, and priority #1 will be to stick together. A lot of celebs (including Lindsay Lohan) blame their wildness on their parents splitting up at sensitive times of their lives, not that that should be an excuse. We're all responsible for our own actions but a stable family life can only help. A broken family can never be a good thing.

got the song stuck in my head now

After all this talk I have the song stuck in my head - and it's the part where she recordskips "I-whip-my-hair-back-n-forth-I-whip-my-hair-back-n-forth..."

That's going to be irritating soon if I can't distract myself...

haha Mamaluv!

I had it in my head all day yesterday! No denying it's catchy Lol

From what I've seen and read about Will Smith, he seems like a good guy and a great Dad. He avoids legal troubles, has taken a strong stand against artists who cuss in their songs, and just generally stays out of the tabloids. I'd say that if any famous family would be able to keep their kids level-headed it's probably the Smiths.

Although I wouldn't want any of the young kids in my family making music videos...

Now she's whippin' candy cane extensions

Way too cute! Willow Smith performed her single "Whip My Hair" wearing candy-cane extensions at an LA event recently.

Too cute!
