Blue Ivy???

What did everyone think of that name?

That's so funny you mention this because a friend of mine was telling me today she read somewhere that someone named their daughter "Salvation Regina". I dunno. Apparently all their kids had odd names.

I'm all for originality and all that... but there is such a thing as too original perhaps? Like Apple or Cocoa. I want to name my daughter (if I ever have one) Elaina. It's pretty, it's feminine, it's not common, but it's not weird.

It probably does have alot to do with attention. And I also agree that Blue Ivy was a little out there, but at least it's not Banana or something!

I think that the reason why celebrities give their children silly names is for the publicity. If they gave their kids 'normal names', no one would care but with these silly names, they get into the newspapers and all the attention. That's what I think anyway.

I always feel sorry for the kids

I always wonder about Gwyneth Paltrow... she doesn't seem like a media ho - and yet she named the kid Apple. Maybe as in 'apple of my eye', but not a nice name to carry for your life. Not sure what they were thinking.

I suppose Blue Ivy is not as bad overall, since the kid will likely be just called Ivy at school. I won't start on the other ones.. Blanket? Really???

Some names are for attention grabbing purposes... I understand why they named their child Blue Ivy, JayZ probably chose blue (if you know him, his album names are blueprint, he had a car deal where they would have made a car blue etc.) and Ivy, or IV (four) as they probably see it, Beyonce has a thing for the number 4 and they got married on April 4th.

But names like Blanket? I would LOVE to see someone explain me that one...

Blanket isn't his real name.....His real name is prince michael the 2nd if Im not mistaken....And was given Blanket as a nick name by the media....Cause of Michael Jackson covering the child with a blanket when out in public. I agree though, there are MANY of crazy names some children hav to live with thanks to having parents that dont think of the backlash to the child.

Doesn't bother me..

Meh.. Doesn't bother me. To each their own! Let parent's name their children whatever they please. In these celebrity cases, the children may have "unique" names, but they're set for life!

I think some of the names out there aren't as bad as they could have been. I personally would never name my child Apple, but it's not too bad. The really way overboard names are those like Audio Science (Shannyn Sossamon), Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily (Paula Yates and Michael Hutchence), Pilot Inspektor (Jason Lee and Beth Riesgraf), and Jermajesty (Jermaine Jackson and Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza) and of course Fifi Trixibell (Bob Geldof and Paula Yates). These names are just ridiculous.

I love BIC

I think the name Blue Ivy Carter is a wonderful name! Some people may not know the origins of it so maybe thats why they are acting with such bitterness.

Blue: Jay Z's album was called "Blueprint" and is also Jay-Z's favorite color.

Ivy: also known as the roman numerals "IV" which signify Beyonce's album, Beyonce and Jay Z's birthday is on the 4th day of their birthday month, and their wedding was on the 4th. They also have the tattoo inscribed "IV" to signify their union.

Any name that has THAT DEPTH of meaning is a name worth mentioning and with pride as such. I think nowadays kids have wayyyy too common names without any originality! C'mon, parents!
