Canadian Musicians

Let's talk about our favourite Canadian musicians!

I have been a fan of Matthew Good since the days of Underdogs (1997) when I didn't even really have "my own" taste in music (I was only 10!) - but I distinctly remember enjoying the singles from this album, followed by Beautiful Midnight a few years later. It's been pure love ever since. I'm not as in love with his solo career as of late, but you still can't deny his absolute musical genius. The last time I saw him in 2011 when he performed Rabbits live, a cappella, I'm pretty sure I could have died happy then and there.

Then there is Our Lady Peace, another staple of my youth. Even now I love listening to Jeremy Taggart on the T&T podcast - I know that isn't musical, but still. He's still a great drummer.

I've also been a longtime fan of Silverstein, and thats a band that brings me back to my later youth and even early 20's...I came in late on that band.

Recently I have seen both Obey the Brave and Struc/tures, and I think they are both based in parts of Ontario (and some Montreal).

We have a lot of great "local" acts here too like Alert the Medic, Wintersleep (well...1 member is local),  In-flight Safety, Joel Plaskett, and Matt Mays.

Let's give Canadian music some love!

I go back a little bit older....

My favorite of all-time is Rush.
The The Tragically Hip for newer stuff.
Also enjoy Sarah McLaughlan from time to time.
I am friends with a couple guys that were in punk bands back in the day... Teenage Head and The Forgotten Rebels. Helps that they are from my hometown. So add them to my list. :-)

I really like Tegan and Sara, I went to one of their concerts and they are AMAZING live! They are making Canada proud. I love all of their albums, there is not a bad song out there by them. You should give Relief Next to Me a listen and The Con is a good song too!

I'm glad to say there's actually a lot of Canadian music on my playlist :) Right now I'm really loving Death from Above 1979

I've always loved Glass Tiger, Blue Rodeo is awesome! If I find myself in a bad mood, I still play "Jagged Little Pill." Love me some OLP too. And Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot are on my iPhone's most played playlist

What an awesome list of musicians, guys! So many that I forgot about - Alanis Morissette, The Hip, Tegan & Sara, Death from Above, and Blue Rodeo!! I saw Blue Rodeo live almost 8 years ago now and I think it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.

Another one I forgot about was The Weakerthans, another great live performance and fellow Canadians that get routine play in iTunes.
