|BEST WAY TO KEEP COOL WITH NO AIR CONDITIONING on Jun 01, 2015 @ 11:41 am|
I know when I had my own apartment years ago. I would put a fan in my window and it really helped keep me cool. I also keep cold water at all times in my fridge in a infuser filled with lemons and limes. I drink that all day and it helps keep you hydrated and cool.

Hi there. I have a quick tip that I hope helps you. When we didn't have air conditioning, I would put a large bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan and turn it on high. I had the fan sitting in the floor or on a table. The ice cubes from the air on the fan cools the room down quite a bit. It's how we survived years ago and keeping the blinds closed. I hope this helps and good luck, Ginger.

Have a cold shower.

What a great tip!! I've never even thought of doing something like that. We always turn our air off at night, but our house heats up fast and some parts faster than others. Of course those parts just happen to be the bed rooms! I'm going to give that a try tonight. They're calling for very high humidity today and that's what kills us more than the high temps do. I'm hoping the ice in front of the fans will do the trick because I sure am sick of listening to my guy's cry about how hot they are. Along with every thing else men cry about. ;) LOL

Buy a Dyson fan.. One of the best fans out there. Keep infused water in the fridge, take a cold shower, keep the shades shut & eat icecream :)

Hi Takoda, I hope this tip works for you. I have used this old trick for years. Parts of our house heats up faster than other rooms also. During the morning, the front part heats up faster and the evenings, it's the back of the house (exactly where the bedrooms are) Try adding some rock salt to the ice also, it helps to keep it from melting so fast. Rock salt is what you use in the old fashioned ice cream hand churned makers. We had those growing up, most stores sell rock salt. Take care and keep cool, Ginger.

A fan comes in handy!

We have air conditioning in my apartment, but we don't enjoy using it as we like to save as much energy and money as possible. I find we're all fine temperature wise if we just drink a lot of cold water and try to eat cooler meals (a salad instead of pasta). I personally don't like drinking plain water, so you can add raspberries, lemon, cucumber, etc to it for more flavour!
We also have one fan and we'll close the blinds, for days when it's really hot.
