Book Club

Have or are any of you involved in a Book Club? I have joined one that starts on Monday. Really looking forward to it but not really sure what to expect. Sounds like a lot of fun :)

What a great idea!
We started a club a few years ago, just my girl friends and their friends. We all read the same book and met every 2 weeks. While we had good intentions to have intellectual conversations surrounding the book, that didn't happen. Our first meeting went along the book club lines, but every meeting after that included some good wine, great appetizers and girl chat, which we all found we needed more of in our lives.
Most of us were still avid book readers, and still read the book recommendation, but we decided we would rather discuss our lives, challenges, kids, jobs, relationships and give/take advise much more!
I am sure you will enjoy your club, they are fun and great thing to be apart of. Looking forward to hearing how it went, oh and what book are you reading?

Hi Amanda112! Thanks so much for your reply! I have a feeling ours will also be spent catching up and getting to know one another. Our club is called Volumes & Vino :) The host provided a list of book ideas yesterday, we will be choosing one to read tomorrow. I have read probably 50% of the suggestions, haha. We are only meeting once a month for about an hour and a half so it will likely go by pretty fast. I'm looking forward to a night out though with other adults :) will update tomorrow with the book choice.

Wow Danaorgnero, I love the book club name, thats something I would want to be apart of!!! (I don't think we had a name, not that I can remember anyway)

Yes, definitely let me know what book your going to read. I am always looking a great novel, so if you have any other recommendations let me know them as well!

I love it too!! So fun :) I am currently reading The Woman In Cabin 10 and am finding it so mysterious!! No clue what's going on!! What type of books are you into? I am pretty huge into murder mystery but do really enjoy both fiction and non fiction.

I love murder mystery, historical fiction, and fiction.
I am trying to remember the last murder mystery I read... it will come to me.

Authors I love are Harlan Corben, Dean Coons, Jodi Picoult, Sandra Brown and many many more...

The last books I read were by Ellen Hopkins, not the typical book I would pick ever! I was turned off right away by the writing style 'verses' before I even opened the book, but a coworker kept raving about her and I promised to give it a try. The first one I read was called "Identical" ... Wow.. the book blew me away, its raw, disturbing, controversial and pushed boundaries. I loved the book and went onto read a few more written by her.

Book club.

I would love to join a book club but I'm so shy and akward around new people. I feel like my shy personality stops me from doing so many things I know I would enjoy doing. Before having my daughter I used to read at least one book a week but since having her it takes me forever to get through a book. I really have to get back into reading again. I have so many books on my bookshelf and downloaded on my Kobo just waiting to be read. I hope you enjoy your book club. Let us know how it goes.

Many years ago while in highschool I joined a young adult book club at my local library. It was really great because the library provided the books on loan for us (either from its own stock or from other libraries). We met once a month and each took turn 'hosting' by bringing snacks. It was nice to meet people outside of my usual social circle and have a public place to meet (no one had to worry about making sure the house was cleaned for guests etc.). I suppose the main difference between this group and most others is that it was mostly organized by the youth librarian. She had access to a variety of book club book lists and questions and helped guide discussions when needed.

I would love to join something like this in my area now, specifically something catered to younger people with the addition of wine :)

Bookclub

I have been a bookclub with a group of friends. However I find everyone is excited for the first meetings and then it just dies off. Either people don't have time to read the book or our lives just get too busy

We go on rotation at different people;s houses and then everyone would bring a snack

I will have to check Ellen Hopkins out Amanda! Interestedl to see what her writing style is like. I am a big fan of James Patterson, Jojo Moyes, Ernest Cline, Paula Hawkins and a bunch more. Really excited that Paula has a new book coming out in May, can't wait to get my hands on it!! Unfortunately book club was cancelled due to sickness so we will be rescheduling. Bonus is it gives me time to finish my current read :)
I'm right there with you Shystarr, my bookshelf is loaded with to reads. Haha :) So many choices too and I keep buying books that appeal to me.
Skye that sounds like it was fabulous! Especially since she had the books available to you. I'm trying to figure out how I'll snag our monthly book to read. I'll likely post on Facebook first and see if anyone has it, if not then the library it is :) I wonder if there's a bookclub near you? Would be worth looking into or even starting one.
Cheryl, hopefully ours won't die off :) I am an avid reader so I'm hoping one month will give me enough time to finish a book. The majority of women in the group I will be meeting for the first time so I'm quite excited about that.

Danaorgnero - Aw too bad it was cancelled, but yes.. good for you so you can finish reading. Our local library offers digital downloads, I download to my ipad or read off laptop and they always have more copies available digitally, maybe your library has the same type of program? I have also downloaded a ton of books through a torrent site.
Out of the Authors you mentioned which is your favorite.. Paula? I am going to check out of her titles.
