Marijuana Good or Bad

For me personally I think a drug is a drug. I don't use it myself but there have been some medical studies done that it seams to help with some serious illness. I guess Medical marijuana is okay if it is monitored by your doctor.

So nicotine?

So tobacco, coffee, and painkillers need to be regulated and prescribed as well?

Well I thought you were asking for opinions I just gave mine. I don't judge anyone for what they do in their life. Its their life. I also did state the I have read many beneficial factors to the use of medical marijuana. As far as tobacco, coffee and painkillers that was not the question you asked.I hope you have a awesome day. whatever floats your boat.

If there was anything I learned in my drugs & behaviour course it was that, if we were ever going to use any drug, it should be marijuana. At the time of the course, there were zero deaths directly related to marijuana use, and although there are short-term hippocampal cell loss and short-term memory damage, all of those cells grow back over time and with longer-term use (in most users). I've never used it, I know tons of people that do, and I think the government would make an absolute killing by legalizing it. What's the worst that could happen? You'll eat yourself out of house and home. It's an expensive habit, but whatevs.

I personally don't use it, but I think there's nothing really that wrong with it. Just like with caffeine, prescriptions, alcohol, etc, as long as it's not interfering with your ability to function as a contributing member of society or your ability to maintain relationships, it's fine. I'm all for it being legalized like tobacco and alcohol.

I mean, the worst thing it makes people do is make them slow moving and hungry. I think it's a bit of a waste of money and time, but I don't look down on people who decide to do it. I guess I'd say I'm indifferent.

I don't use marijuana myself nor does anyone that I know. In my opinion, it's whatever that person's belief is. It's their business and not mine as long as it's not done around me. I've heard all it does is relax you, makes pain more bearable and gives you a big case of the munchies. To each his own, it's their money and they can spend it the way they want to. Ginger.

I've known of people who have needed to use marijuana for medical reasons, mainly in conjunction with chemotherapy, as well as chronic pain issues and as an additional treatment for seizures. However, in my opinion, it is still a drug and should only be used as a last resort for medical purposes.

As for the leisure use of the drug, I'm still on the fence about it. It would be inaccurate to state that marijuana never killed anyone. I think there still needs to be research done in this area, as there is a lot of confusion surrounding this potential myth. Maybe it has never caused someone to overdose, but can we safely say it has never killed anyone due to alterations in their behaviour, such as impaired driving?

On a somewhat common ground, we have cigarettes which are known to cause cancer and ultimately death, but have the same extensive amount of studies existed for marijuana? Since tobacco and nicotine are known killers, companies have no choice but to display health warnings on every pack of cigarettes they sell. Will marijuana come with any health warnings if it is legalized? What long term effects does marijuana smoke cause lungs or the brain?

I sincerely doubt the only effect of marijuana use would be making you hungry and sleepy. It can also cause you to become disoriented, possibly depressed, have panic and/or anxiety attacks in high dosages, as well as an increased heart rate.

There have been questions and studies related to whether or not marijuana can lower your IQ due to the fact that the brain cannot regenerate brain cells as well as we'd like and since the main ingredient in marijuana, THC, is known to affect nerve cells in the brain and possibly alter one's memory, is it really as harmless as they want us to believe it is?

Another worry for which studies are also ongoing, is whether or not marijuana can exacerbate depression or schizophrenia in people with predispositions for the disorder. Apparently, extensive use can trigger psychosis in some people and psychosis, in turn, can lead to actions which can cause death.

Sterility and problems with reproductive abilities is also another concern. Have they fully researched the effects of mothers who use marijuana while pregnant and the results in their offspring? Apparently, children exposed to such circumstances, have increased chances of being born prematurely and developing learning or behavioural disorders as they age. The same goes for teenagers who use the drug while their brains are still developing.

Therefore, because of all of these factors, I don't think we can be ready to say that marijuana is 100% safe. Yes, it may be one of the mildest forms of drugs out there and although it can have possible benefits as well, there is still a lot to study. Until we have definite answers, it should be treated with caution, like any other drug.

Thanks for posting all this information about using Marijuana. I feel that it is so sad that the youth of today thinks it is okay and it does not effect them at all. You are so right in many of the factors you pointed out about Marijuana use. Another issue is that many users say it is non addictive which is totally untrue. I also liked the facts that you brought up about behavior, unborn children, reproductive abilities, psychosis and impaired driving. I hope any one that uses Marijuana or is thinking of using reads your community post on the subject.Very well written and also very informative. Thanks for your input on this very important subject.
