Facebook Has Trademarked the Word "Face"

I just read that the US Patent Office just approved Facebook's application to trademark the word "face".  What the?!

As long as Facebook pays the set issue fee (pretty sure they won't have a problem finding the cash) they own the word "face" when it involves telecommunication services that provide
"online chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of
messages among computer users in the field of general interest and
concerning social and entertainment subject matter..."

Unnecessary or smart?

that seems like a slippery slope, here. What will this eventually morph into? Will beauty companies come under attack for selling "face cream"? I'm sure there are restrictions in place at this point, but who's to say what will follow?

I think this is dumb.

HAHA Becky you're hilarious :P I have to say that I'm in danger as well, cause that's also my favourite (and only) come back!

According to my friend though, it could get worse.

Apparently they also want to trademark the words "Friend" and "Like".
