A few weeks ago I fell asleep around 11pm . I woke up at midnight to the sound of knocking . I didn't think too much of it as I always have vivid dreams and this happens a lot . I texted my friend laughing about it . At 1am , I hear 5 HUGE bangs that sounded like they came from the side of the house . I was going to call 911 , but I decided to call my mom instead . I heard my neighbours gate as I was talking to her so I thought okay it was him trying to get into his house . He had just moved in 2 weeks prior and he has been loud lately .So I go and investigate while I'm on the phone with my mom . I turned on my front and back porch lights , looked out the windows and everything seemed fine . I left a note for my friend saying why the lights were on and went to bed hours later . The next day I asked my neighbour if he had been making loud bangs the night before and he said no . My neighbors across the street called us over saying there was 3 guys on our front porch the night before around 1am and they heard bangs . So we called the cops . Cop showed up and couldn't get our back door open but eventually did . There was a dent and a boot print and it was splintered . They tried to kick in my door but it jammed thankfully so they couldn't get in . So scary ! I haven't been able to sleep at night since then .

So my question is , what security measures do you have in place ?

Oh my god that is terrifying! Well you can always get a home security system with cameras. You can even get these alarm things that go off if any doors or windows are opened after you have set them for the night. In an effort to scare off anyone trying to break in. So sorry this happened to you, it must have been very traumatic.

Get a home security system and make sure you have big signs all around your house so they know its being monitored. Thats scary!!! And being in your house at the same time...

I hate that I can't take control of the situation as it's my friends house and mine . She did get a security system but it doesn't record unless you physically press record , and that's just stupid . I've showed her better ones that will be cheaper so I'm hoping she decides to go with a better option . She's getting motion sensored lights too but it's been 3 weeks and nothing yet . For now we have been leaving the front and back door ligjts on . There hasn't been any issues in my area until the last few weeks . My attempted break in , the best street over there was a break in and someone was shot , a few blocks over another break in and people we're shot . It's very scary.

We experienced a garage breakin some years ago and also have had a car stolen out of our driveway. We have a monitored security system as well as an alarm on our car. What a scary/frightening incident you experienced. I would consider a system with a couple of camera on the outside of the house. Thank goodness you are okay.

If you're able to the best thing is to get a dog. I've always had terriers and once my next door neighbour was robbed so the next day the police came door-to-door, and said the thieves had probably knocked on our door first but our dog sounds aggressive. I have a Jack Russel now that's a true screamer.

Side note: we had our truck tailgate stolen this year right off the truck, and replaced it with a locking one. Honestly, the tailgate?!

Sounds scary. That's why I decided to update my security system. New cameras, alarms, and sensors. SecuringHome - here you can read more about it and find the right systems for your personal needs.

i found even having a sticker visible that you have security (even if you don't as you mentioned its your friends house) can scare people off. Even a fake camera that is very visible. Hope that helps :)
