Target is coming to Canada!

It's official: Target is coming to Canada.  They are going to spend $1.83 billion to buy the retail space of up to 220 Zellers stores.

And they plan to move fast: by 2013, they expect to have 100-150 stores open across Canada.

Are you excited?  Would you choose Target over Zellers?

It is a good day!

My gut reaction to this news was excitement (my heart actually leaped a bit), my secondary reaction however is the same every time one of my beloved American stores decides to jump over the boarder - and that's sadness.

I enjoy weekend trips to the states to go shop at different stores and find different products, and now that a lot of American stores have set up shop over here everything is starting to look the same.

On an economic note: Target will for sure take over Zellers. There is no competition it is better kept, it has bigger selection and it will be the new thing. Zellers will either give in and allow itself to be bought out or they will have to step up and make some huge changes if they are going to try and compete.

not that excited....

I guess since Target has almost always been in my life I am not that excited....when I was home for the holidays just recently, I went to Target. I thought that they were a bit on the expensive side!

I do like the designers that they feature for ladies clothing though. Sales there are a good thing as well.

I haven't had many opportunities to shop at Zellers since there aren't any in my area. However, I really liked the Alfred Sung collection there over the summer and I did receive a beautiful cardigan for Christmas from this collection. I think Zeller's missed their opportunity to gain a foothold in the market, and now (unfortunately) it's too late for them.

I kind of feel guilty about being a little bit excited about this, since American corporations are always taking over it seems... But to be honest, I could do without either Zellers or Target..

I heard on our local radio today...

that they are going to be opening one of the Toronto Targets with in a
week just to get a feel how customers will like them. I didn't catch the
location, or the date just that it was a Toronto Target. You lucky
ladies!! I've only bin in a Target a few times years ago and they seemed
a lot like Walmart to me. I can't wait to compare their prices.

I heard that too!

Something like a 'store for a day'. concept - King Street. (363 King St. W. at John) Designer Jason Wu's collection is restricted though... only 3 items per person. It will sell out early!

I have never been to Target.

Target Releasing Dates

I know that a few Target locations have already been opened but the majority of them aren't still (le sigh). In any case, they've released a few more opening dates, here is the link: http://www.canadiandailydeals.com/2013/03/target-canada-store-opening-dates.html

Its opening in my area tomorrow and I haven't heard a word about it until now!
That really surprises me. I thought they would have sent out a flyer with all the others when they were opening. Right after I looked the openings up they announced their opening on the radio. They said our Target will be opening at 8am tomorrow morning, but that their grand opening won't be until April. I hope they don't wait to send out flyers until April. I like knowing what's on sale and just how much things are compared to other stores before I go shopping.

Any how guess where I'll be first thing tomorrow?? LOL
I'll come back and let you all know how their prices compare to Walmart and or other stores in my area.

prices vs. selection

I live in the US so have easy access to Target & Walmart. I'd have to say that the prices at Walmart are generally a little cheaper.

HOWEVER, the reasons I shop at Target are (1) the selection and (2) less crowded.

Target does have aggressive sales and if you watch your prices, you will certainly come out cheaper than Walmart on certain items (because Walmart doesn't really do sales). I like shopping Target's housewares (think decor, bedding, etc) because they have quirkier and slightly more upscale products. I also like some of the designer collaborations they've done, which Walmart doesn't offer.

So the moral of the story is, if you want rock bottom prices you're better off at Walmart and shopping the sales. If you want "nicer" merchandise (and in some cases, better quality merch), head to Target!
