Things to keep you busy during COVID-19

carissaadams

Hello!

I recently lost my job, and there is no sign of when things will get back to normal.

What are some things to do to keep you busy (and not going insane) through this time while you are to keep inside.

Any game ideas, movies, tv shows, crafts, would be so helpful!  Thank you :)

Tons of stuff

Make sure to keep yourself busy by doing a lot of things that you like. I like to watch TV, Adult color, surf the net, read, work out and take walks outside. I also like to garden. Just do what makes you happy and helps relieve stress.

Learn a new skill, bake, garden.

I've been taking some time to learn new skills by watching online classes on Skillshare. You can you probably find a coupon code for your first two months free floating around on the web. If not, there are tons of tutorials for almost anything you can think of on YouTube!

A lot of my friends have started making their own bread. Sourdough is usually tough to make because it requires a lot of babysitting / waiting for it to rise, etc, but now there's more than enough time to try making it! If not sourdough, there are lots of bread recipes online that range from easy (no knead one skillet breads) to more challenging!

It's spring here in Toronto so I've also started a lot of my seedlings indoors! I want to grow some of my veggies and some herbs this year.

Baking, Sewing, crafts, gardening

I have been doing a lot of baking lately (and of course the eating that goes with it 😂). I have also gotten back into sewing and I find that relaxing.

Do you have kids or like crafts? We have been making a lot of crafts here too. We have also planted a few seedlings and hope the weather starts getting nicer to plant outside.

Crafts

Window painting has become really popular with a lot of people painting rainbows and other positive messages for people to see when out for a walk or drive to keep from going crazy.

Pinterest has a lot of great craft ideas. I also like to just google craft ideas and a wide selection pops up. We made sock bunnies for Easter.

"Old" skills for sure

I agree with what others are saying. While it is also a great time to learn a new language or yoga or other worthy hobby, I know a lot of people who are diving into baking, gardening, sewing, and other skills that many people have lost. I have long worried about those skills going away and am so glad that my kids' middle school is still teaching "applied arts" (i.e. sewing, cooking, woodwork) because those are skills you can keep forever. I live in Winnipeg so we're still waiting for the start of gardening season but I am super excited about having a bumper crop this year which will offset any possible price hikes at the grocery store, if they happen.

It's a tough time, and it is so hard to see so many people unemployed :(. Stay safe and mentally well everyone!

Keeping busy

Thanks for creating this post. So many great replies already.
I'm going out for walks to get some fresh air. I do at home work outs. Right now I'm doing jillian Michael's 30 day shred but there are so many free videos on the net. I personally like pop sugar and rebecca louise.
To echo one of the posts above udemy has lots of free courses/ videos. My friend sent me a link from harvard offering free courses as well.
Stay safe.
