Vanilla bean

A question to Canadian bakers:  Has anyone ever bought vanilla bean online?  If so, which company would you recommend?

Online vs. Stores

I've only ever bought vanilla bean in stores. Can I ask why you're looking online as opposed to stores and which sites you've been looking at so far? If there is a better deal out there for vanilla bean online, or maybe getting bulk I'd definitely be interested!

much cheaper

I like to bake and nothing beats real vanilla bean. I always have one lying around in my kitchen. But they are really expensive to buy in the grocery stores. So I'm looking for cheaper option because I know I'll bake more with vanilla bean if I can get my hands on cheaper beans. I found a few online companies and I wanted to know if anyone has good recommendations b/c I'm always weary of buying from unknown companies. On the website I saw, they sell 10 vanilla beans for $13, plus $7 shipping. That's WAY cheaper than what I normally pay, even with the shipping. Also, it's flat rate for shipping which is great!!

Cheap beans!

I was looking at the same site I think-

I love baking with vanilla bean too- it's not something you immediately notice but there is a much better flavour with it. I usually just purchase it at my local Loblaws but I only ever buy one pack at a time and really stretch it out to make it last. The website looks pretty legit though - and I like that it is Canadian based.

Bought it!

Alex, I did see those prices on Vanilla Food Company. I took the plunge and bought 1/4 lbs. The vanilla beans arrived within 2 days. The beans were beautiful, so plumb, soft and smells really great. I'd say they are even better quality than the ones I buy at Loblaw!

I am making some vanilla extract but will have to wait until end of Dec. to test the results. I haven't had time to bake with the leftover beans.
