Do you have any to contribute?
Avoid walking near vans in parking lots.
Always have an escape route.
Don't use a weapon unless you're prepared to have it turned on you.
Wear a purse with a strap across your body and always closed.
Do not wear headphones at night.

Yes...

Always keep your head up, look aware, and walk confidently. Your body language can make a big difference in whether you look like you're an easy target or would fight back.

weird, but...

This is a weird one, but I've heard if you have long hair and like to wear it in a ponytail you're best to wear it as a bun. Ponytails are easy to grab.

And I second vans, but also any kind of car. If someone is slowing down to 'ask for directions', stay far away from the road and just shrug and say you don't know and keep walking.

Keeping safe

If you're walking , it's better to walk against traffic. It's best that you can see the cars and that they can see you. Also, you're both going in opposite directions. It avoids them to slow down or to follow you. I have a habit of wearing a dark jacket or clothes. It helps if you can stand out with some light coloured items ie. hats, gloves, boots, etc. I carry a cloth bag instead of a purse because it's not as noticeable or as showy. I hope this helps someone.

Protection

Carry pepper spray.
It really works, and pairs well with a kick to the groin.

spray

Pepper spray is good, even just the threat of it. But it is illegal here in Ontario, not sure about elsewhere. And I always worry about any weapon I do carry being used against me.

I think the best advice is to stay in a group when at all possible.

Self-Awareness

I took a course on personal safety. My take away from that is be prepared to scream and know your bottom line. What would you do in order to get away? I, personally, would use my keys as a weapon and would jab anywhere in order to get away. If someone attacks my friend(s)...I would run for help. However, if someone attacks my family I will fight.

Cat Brass Knuckles

Mama Bear always taught me to pull my Wolverine(car keys in between my knuckles) whenever I walk out to my car at night.
NOW, I'm obsessed with my "Cat Keychain"/ which can be used as a dangerous weapon. Placing your two fingers through the holes and having the "ears" pointed upward away from you hand, you can use this powerful tool to stab a guy through the jugular.

Women's safety

Always park as close to the entrance as you can and carry your keys between your 1st 2 fingers. I saw a movie on this and she jabbed him right in the eye with a key. They will double over, then run. Also, kick them as hard as you can in their private place.

Safety.

Theres a few things that I do.
I allllways keep alert when walking alone, always looking around me, behind me, everything.
Always have a cellphone in pocket or hand.
I walk towards traffic and never with it, especially at night.
I dont walk down any alleys or near any building that look empty or creepy lol
I like to walk where theres lots of lights too.
Ive even had someone appear to be following me and my cellphone was dead and I pretended to be on it anyways.
I wanna look into maybe getting a pocket sized pepper spray to!
