Zero Food Waste

I read an article not too long ago that said we throw out 1/4 of all the food we buy. So in our house we are trying to have zero food waste. This means really thinking about what we buy for groceries and using everything up.

Is anyone else trying to waste less, I'd love to hear suggestions or meal ideas that worked for you.

We try..

At my house we try to live waste less but it's tricky.

Couple things we make at the end of the week to use up left over veg and meats

-Homemade pizza

-Stir Fry

I always try to do up something different with leftovers, so nothing gets thrown out

I try

I cook 5-6 nights a week and the leftovers tend to pile up in the fridge, it can be really hard sometimes not to just throw stuff out (out of sight out of mind). What I try and do is if there's enough left to be a good size serving it gets frozen. More than once BF has told me he's hungry and I'll start listing off stuff that's in the freezer and he will get excited about the chunk of lasagna or hamburger patty I've kept. I also try and use stuff from the freezer regularly. I'm also a big fan of putting some bacon grease in a pan and frying just about anything up! Pasta, veg, meat, eggs with cheese that almost moldy etc.

I try to cook everything before it goes bad, but it's really hard sometimes. Especially when it somehow gets shoved into the back of the fridge and I don't see it!
The main one is tomato paste. I never use much for a recipe, and if I put it in the fridge I never use it and it becomes all moldy. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do with leftover tomato paste, please let me know!
