Bartholin Cyst

Hi Ladies,

I recently got a bartholin cyst and was wondering if anyone has experienced this and has any good advice.

Just to let you know I refuse to have the surgical procedure called marsupialization done. I have been doing sitz baths a few times a day and using a heating pad over top of clothing.

It has been over a week and still not gone.

thank you!

Also - it's not necesarily surgery

Sorry, one more thing. I did not have "surgery" to get it drained. I was at the OB and she did the procedure right then and there with a local anesthetic. No big deal. The incision completely closed and is healed.

So um, my cyst popped this morning in the shower. It's been draining throughout the day on a panty liner. I'm still putting warm cloths on it to be safe, keeping it sanitized and pushing up anything left in there.
But... now what do i do with this open wound?

I had really light/small traces of blood for like..4-5 days. I think you should just keep it clean and definitely stay away from sex for at least a week..someone earlier in this thread said its better to wait at least 2 weeks . glad you popped!! its such a relief =)

been there

I had a cyst since I was 20, I'm now in my 40's; my first cyst was the left side I did the lancing and eventually had it removed, years ago we didn't have much information. however, years later after the surgery, I developed a cyst on the right side, I have allowed the Dr to drain it, but it WILL return. now, I refuse to drain it anymore. I do hot baths and some times a hot compress. I also continue, when not to painful to have sex with my husband, even though, the Dr says otherwise, I sometimes find relief

Bartholin Cyst

I've had a BC since I was 17. I'm turning 27 now and lemme tell ya. It
sucks. It used to last 5-7 days and I had gone to the OBYGN and got it
drained ( I believe my first one) because i couldn't stand the pain. The
first time i received it. I freaked out---still to this day wonder
why. I got tested for everything and the doctor said it was a bartholin
cyst and it can be common in girls of reproductive age.
I was 17 at the time-- and angry. It came maybe twice a year. Then
recent years it would become more and more. I don't know how it gets
infected. I think because it doesn't drain all the way, it comes back
and recur. I still get tested every year, and everything still is
normal. I think it's just a natural blockage which still sucks.

one point in recent years, it would come every month for like 6 months
straight. This could be due to stress because I'm a workaholic. I'm
pushing for a next chapter is what I want to do and career opportunity
and I do believe it's part of what causes flare ups.

I would
usually get them right before my period. But the duration would be less
and less. I believe my last one was in Sept. and it lasted for 3 days.
It would be "uh oh.. I feel a slight pain" and by night it would be. "oh
no it's here!" By day 2 it would hurt when i walked and it will
literally drain all my energy. I would feel so tired and sometimes get
chills and there would be nothing I could do. By day 3 it ruptures and
it feels better. But I think it closes up again too fast. :/

have one of those herbal pads that I heat up and put it in the microwave
and let it be warm enough to tolerate and sleep with it on between my
legs. That helps. I always take silica pills when It comes and try to
take it 3 times a day. Drink lots of tea and water. Lots. Wear pads
because mine usually ruptures when I put the heat pad on and sleep. I
recently found a little lump maybe about a week ago. It got bothersome,
but no pain and it grew but it stopped suddenly and at times I was
like.. wow.. this is annoying. I kinda wanted to hurt, so it can just
rupture and get over with it already., but I guess that means this is a
normal non infected. It's still ongoing but again not painful. except
for the no sex part I'm annoyed by that.. :(

For years I've used
baby wipes ( I take them everywhere) use silica, use a heating pad.
What also helped I know it may sound silly.. but flex or clench your
muscles down there. Clench that area muscle as you would your booty.
Keep doing that as the pad is on you and it will help it burst and
you'll feel instant relief.

If it bursts, it should drain
for a few days. Sometimes a light brown discharge I believe with those,
it would get big and be an abscess, I've read as well that it can have
an unpleasant odor ( I think i've had one of those kinds when it was my
first one and it was so painful), sometimes regular white/yellow
discharge if it was just a few days. I take Ibuprofin for the pain.

I hope this helps

Bartholin Cyst

I just had a Bartholin cyst drained last week by my OBGYN in her office. This is the 2nd time I have had to have this done. The procedure took about 30 minutes and it was not painful but it wasn't real comfortable either. My doctor said that you shouldn't wait to have it drained because it can get infected and then you have bigger problems. If I end up getting these cysts more frequently then my doctor said I might want to think about having surgery done to remove the bartholin glands, which will prevent any more cysts. I hope that by now you have seen your gynecologist.

Yep doctors

Yep I've visited 2-3 doctors within the past couple of years and I had them drained a few before and mine kept recurring. Now they keep telling me that if it drains there really isn't anything they can do. Too much antibiotics is not good for you and since I get mine somewhat frequently and the only option will be to lance them but I asked one and she pretty much said I could do that but it could come back on the otherside. They practically gave me the live with it face and steered clear of surgery until I can't stand it anymore in which I'm almost to that point. So it's been ibuprofen/ heat pads and they go away.

Doctor vs Home Remedy

...its stories like that(which ive read many of online) that had me
steer clear of a doctor ridding of it for me and just going the home
remedy routes..it seems like most who have it drained or lanced or
whatever have a lot of reoccurring cysts! Ive only had one in my life,
it was in recent months ago and no signs of a return so far *fingers

I'm NOT alone??!!!

Wow I thought I was alone or rarely this happend to anyone! Not to be mean but I am glad because now I can share and get feedback on what to do. I had my first bartholins 2 yrs ago, I didn't know what it was and went to the e.r. I had it drained and that was that. It came back a couple of days later but I took bath sitz in real hot water it opened and drained more. I thought the doctor didn't drain it out as much so I figured that was that. But nope. 3 months ago it came back and this time I did the bath sitz when it was still small but it still got bigger and so painful that I was getting a fever every night. When I got to the point of me not being able to get up and a temperature that was above 100 I went to the e.r again. This time they put a catheter to drain it out. Painful but I knew it was gonna go away. Now 3 mnths later, right now..its' BACK :'( I want to cry soooo bad! I can't imagine my life being like this. Why do they come back? What can I do besides the bath sitz and painkillers for this to get smaller and never come back? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME?? :(

i feel your pain

i got mine two days ago. it hurt a lot, i called my doc and she said to come see her after a week cause the same day i got it i had my period. its the size of a small marble. my doc suggested olfin anti inflammatory till she sees me, the pain has stopped thankfully and i dont think its growing more, however its not reducing. i hope it wont take to long. my friends feel it could have started because i started laser hair removal treatment on my bikini area. anyway i guess ill have to wait and see.
