Bartholin Cyst

Hi Ladies,

I recently got a bartholin cyst and was wondering if anyone has experienced this and has any good advice.

Just to let you know I refuse to have the surgical procedure called marsupialization done. I have been doing sitz baths a few times a day and using a heating pad over top of clothing.

It has been over a week and still not gone.

thank you!

How did it go?

Did it burst on its own in the end or did you have to see a doc?

No it hasn't burst yet although I feel it's reduced a bit in size, i will go to the doctors tomr and see what she has to say.

does tea tree oil really burn while trying to treat a bartholin gland cyst

so I heard that tea tree oil really works but since this is my first time getting one and I'm really scared it is going to only make it worse, I have a dance performance in two days and really need to get rid of it or would i still be able to dance ?
does anybody else have any other Home methods or anything to make this go away FAST!?

A HUGE thank you to the ladies of this forum!

I have been lurking around this forum for about a week now as I've had a cyst for about that long. I had come across other forums that were so negative and caused me to worry more and sink into depression. I really wanted to say that I appreciate every one on here being so positive and helpful as I didn't want to do the medical procedures either. I had a bartholin cyst once before about 5 years ago but it was pretty small and went away without much more than sitz baths and advil. I think it has A LOT to do with stress. I've been extremely stressed lately and I was when I got the last one too. I also think that condoms with spermicide have something to do with it too. I can't tell for sure but I know spermicide has given me a yeast infection before too.

Mine lasted a week before it finally burst. The last 2 days were unbelievably excruciating. Just wanted to leave my two cents on here too in case people are looking for any remedies:

I tried making the Epsom salt paste but that didn't really work as well as I would have liked. I felt like the roughness of the salt grains actually irritated the cyst more. I did find HUGE relief in the Tea Tree oil. I would mix together a couple tablespoons of Epsom salts with 10-15 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil (I found mine at the local health food store. I recommend picking some up in any case, it's really good stuff to have around). I added a little hot water to melt the salt and then soaked cotton pads in the solution and pressed them on to the cyst, making sure to insert them into my vagina a little to make sure it got around the whole thing. I got the bathtub running with SUPER hot water and then pressed the hot washcloth over the cotton pads. I would repeat this for about 30 minutes a few times a day.

When it finally burst I could tell it must have abcessed because it was (warning, this is kinda graphic) it was really bloody and didn't smell very good. I didn't even care though because the pain was almost immediately gone. Now it's just a little tender and I wear a pad and clean it every couple of hours. If anything changes I'll post but for now, all seems to be on the uptick.

Thanks again to all the ladies here! It has helped more than you know!

Bartholin hell

Hey ladies. I just submitted but I dunno if it went through. A couple days ago a knot like lump appear on my area on the lower left lip (sorry if that's graphical) but it didnt hurt too much. The next day it started hurting a lot. I tried the home help stuff such as the sitz bath and the next day it had decreased in size but seems dry on the outside. Today I had an appointment to get it looked at but something went wrong with the scheduling and I didnt see me doctor but got an appointment as early as Thursday. I was just wondering if this sounds like the cyst? I've only had one partner in the bedroom and Its my husband. Help please :(

Bartholin hell

Hi Nikkip

yeah it sounds like it. Since the bartholin cyst is a blockage of the gland... that's exactly what it's doing- That gland is the little gland that makes us "wet."

Glad that it's going away. Keep up with the baths. maybe the heat will make it warm and it will release out.

I've read and heard from doctors that it's common. It could be caused by an Sti or more commonly just a blockage of the duct. Maybe our secretions are too thick and it's too small of a duct so it gets backed up? I"m not entirely sure. Keep up with the hot tea and hot baths. Silica works for me along with hot baths/hot packs. Let us know how it goes. You're definitely not alone.

I recently saw a woman on the TV the DRs with the same problem! She ended up getting surgery for it from a DR that sees this all the time.

Re:A HUGE thank you to the ladies of this forum!

I'm so glad you're feeling better. I get recurring cysts and currently looking for a specialist in that. When it does comes I feel so tired, sluggish, and it's painful but when it goes away.. it's like thank goodness! you instantly feel so relieved!

My Bartholin's experience

I came across this forum and thought I'd share my experience. About ten years ago (in my early twenties) I began having Bartholin's cysts on the right side. My doctor told me to keep an eye on it but if it wasn't bothering me to just use the home remedies, i.e. sitz baths, warm compresses. It was about the size of a ping pong ball but didn't really cause any pain or cause issues with sex. I actually had it for about 5 years before it caused me any problems. It would get larger when I was sexually aroused but generally stayed the same size. So after all that time it became very painful so I had it lanced and drained with a Word catheter in place. I found the catheter to be very painful. Every time I shifted or moved it would pull at the incision. I had the catheter removed and the cyst was gone, however after a few months it reoccured. This began a pattern of several very painful recurrences, each time being lanced and drained (although I refused to have another Word catheter placed). After this happened several times my doctor recommended having the gland removed. I had the surgery about two years ago and I'm so glad I did! Yes I was in quite a bit of pain when I woke up however over the next couple weeks it was well controlled with pain killers. I actually had sex a little before I was supposed to but we went slow and there were no problems. For about six months after the surgery the site would get a little sore when I was aroused but nothing major and not enough to limit my sex life. I've heard on here people worrying about lubrication during intimacy (as I was) but that was not a problem for me. I still ha the other one and there are other glands in the vagina that help with that too. So I am a proponent of the gland removal surgery if you have continual, painful problems. Just make sure to find a doctor that you trust and has experience with this surgery.
The reason I came across this forum, however, is that today I noticed that I now have a cyst forming on the left side. I knew that was a possibility but I am not looking forward to this process again! It is not painful and I hope it stays that way since I just started a new job and will not have insurance for about two months.
Good luck to you all! And if you have any questions about the surgery don't hesitate to ask. I'll be checking back here and will answer any questions I can.
