Going through a really hard time

Anonymous

I thought when I accepted this job that life was going to be great. However, it has been depressing and my anxiety has never been higher.

I don't know what to do. I cannot just quit this job as I need a living, it pays well and has benefits. I have been applying for similar paying jobs for the past month but things are just so hard.
Even on my days off I am crying about this job, having to go back. I just hate the work, working in that type of environment, but I am in such a crappy situation.

I feel like I am never going to get relief, and that my depression and anxiety are just going to get worse.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through a very difficult time currently.
I really hope that one of the other jobs that you have been applying for hires you so that you can quit the job that is causing you so much anxiety.
Sending hugs!!

I have been there

I felt the same way once. It's awful. You need to quit for the sake of your soul but you can't afford to.  Rather than look at this as an overwhelming objective, you need to map out a strategy and then break it down into a series of tasks, which you can do while working at your current job.

Do you want to stay in the same industry?
- if yes, what kind of role do you want to be in?
- If different than your current role, do you have the qualifications and if not, what do you need to do to get them?

If you don't want to stay in that industry, where do you want to be?
- Identify a few people doing  your dream job and see if they'll let you treat them to a coffee to learn from their experience how they got there. Come prepared with questions but also make sure they do most of the talking and you take notes.

- Once you have feedback on what is needed to get into your dream job, make a list and start working on those items one at a time.

Even though you can't quit just yet, you can work on your plan in parallel and make the leap once you've set yourself up.

In my case, I had to go back to school as where I wanted to be (media) was completely different from where I was (insurance) and just applying for jobs in that space was not working out. It was a huge pain but so worth it!!

You'll have to be a bit creative but it can be fun!  Doing this process will also make your current work life easier because you are working on a plan to make this part of your life better.

You can do this!
