Do you like Guinness?
I do! In fact it's my favourite beer and I'm glad it is!
Did you know that one pint of Guinness has only 196 calories?! That is less than a pint of orange juice or a pint of skim milk! Guinness has absolutely no preservatives added! There are only 4 ingredients (barley, hops, yeast and water). The Alcohol Beverage Volume of Guinness is 4.2%, less than most beers. I like this because I'm a lightweight and want to be able to order that second or third round with everyone else without getting twice as loaded as everyone else!
My favourite thing about Guinness I recently learned from the december issue of SHAPE. Guinness is loaded with iron! SHAPE referenced an article in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture that claims that dark beers contain significantly more iron than light beers! As one of the over 6 million women who suffer from an iron deficiency I was especially glad to hear that enjoying a pint of my favourite beer also gave me an extra boost of iron!
Do you know of any foods with surprising health benefits?
|I like it as well on Nov 28, 2011 @ 02:40 am|
I like Guinness...Hmm my iron has been very low and I was put on palafer a high iron supplement. So perhaps the Guinness sounds more fun lol.Well I think most people know they say a glass of red wine is good for you. There are so many wonderful foods that are so beneficial and good for you.It seems the Acai is the big craze right now, also those goji berries. Now this will throw some people off but my father in law is in his late 80s and still going strong! He swears by a swig out of the pickle jar of the brine...I do know that vinegar is very good for cleaning your blood so maybe hes onto something. Will I try it?hmmm NO!But hey everybody has there favorite remedy's.
|Pickle brine, blech! on Nov 28, 2011 @ 02:46 am|
I used to take palafer! Now I take a lower dose supplement. I guess its all the guinness I've been drinking! Lol! I think I've heard about pickle brine before, not really something I'd try out either! :P

Who knew Guinness had so little calories?! I will have to start drinking it more often!
@Bren581 I have never heard of pickle brine before- you would have to have a strong stomach to down that! I'm not a picky eater but for some reason I REALLLY hate eating something I don't like, like I just cannot stand medications etc. It's just a weird thing I have- my palette is sensitive as I like to say.... haha
Anyways- I am usually a light beer drinker but I may start drinking more Guinness then! I figure beer has a lot of yeast in it sooooo it's pretty much like bread which I feel is pretty healthy (haha that's how I reason).
