For sore throats, I always give my family 2 tablespoons of honey, plus it helps the cough. I load them up on orange juice, chicken noodle soup and ecinechia. I don't think I spelled it right.

I lose my voice with a cold and other than drinking warm liquids, I find the good old gargling with salt water does the trick. don't make the water too hot and try not to choke, but you want to tip you head back to get the liquid into your throat.
and take lots of vitamin c preventatively. I won't do anything to shorten your cold but it will help prevent them.

my nanna used to make me hot water, lemon juice, and honey in it. Honey soothes your throat especially the coughing!

Mix a little honey with some lemon and apple cider vinegar and sip it slowly. It'll sooth your throat and possibly stop your cold from getting worse.
I've also heard that gelatin (ex: Jello) is great for sore throats since it creates a protective coat that also soothes.

Two cups of water, peeled piece of ginger root, 7/9 pepper corn. Boil until one cup evaporates (?), then add honey and lemon to remaining one cup and drink it up. Not only it help when you have cold, its amazing drink to keep your immune system strong and going!
