Low iron


Hi all!
So, I'm a vegetarian and have low iron. What foods or tips do you guys know of that can help me boost my iron levels!

Legumes: lentils, soybeans, tofu, tempeh, lima beans Grains: quinoa, fortified cereals, brown rice, oatmeal Nuts and seeds: pumpkin, squash, pine, pistacio, sunflower, cashews, unhulled sesame Vegetables: tomato sauce, swiss chard, collard greens, Other: blackstrap molasses, prune juice

My mom is also a vegetarian and has low iron, she takes iron pills, eats lots of leafy greens, an egg once a week, lentils, tofu, anything that is multigrain, etc.

I had to get on a supplement....there is a liquid vegan one that works quite well.

Blackstrap molasses is one of the best sources of iron and it has other great health benefits as well. I consume a teaspoon 2-3 times a week. You could also mix it in your coffee/tea or in your green juice/smoothie if you like.

dark coloured fruits and vegetables

are usually high in iron. try throwing spinach into a smoothie. The colour may not be pretty, but you get a great iron boost.

I suffer with low iron as well, my mom would give me molasses as a child to boost my iron. Now I take an iron supplement and eat lots of greens, especially spinach. Good luck!
