The Master Cleanse Diet

Hey ladies,

not sure if you know but dolce_bellissima and I are embarking on what we hope to be 10 days on the Master Cleanse diet.

You can read details on the diet by just going to google and searching for Master Cleanse.
Here are some articles I found to be helpful:

The basic idea is to make a specific lemonade, and only drink that (and purified water) for ideally 10 days and a herbal lax tea at night (and seat salt with water in the morning, if you need the extra laxative help) to cleanse your body of unwanted toxins.

The lemonade recipe is as follows:
4 tbsp lemon (or lime) juice (1 lemon)

4 tbsp genuine maple syrup (the darker the better)

1/5 tsp cayenne pepper (red pepper) or to taste

10 to 12 oz. water (spring or purified) (hot or cold)

Combine the lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper in a container.

Add the water and stir

You guys might know of my ...ahem....*struggles* so hopefully this helps!  ;-)

farewell real food...and coffee!

for now anyways! ;-)

Probably not a good idea, but I'm having my last cup of coffee as I make my lemonade. Yes, before you ask, I have read loads of articles advising on easing into the diet by eating clean/healthy/raw, etc. which makes the diet more sustainable and efficient. But I need to say my tearful 'see you later' to my favourite drink. I think the hardest thing for me will be to go through the day without any coffee.

I really really with all my heart hope I last the whole 10 days :-/

Morning Becky

Have you taken anything for your head ache, if not take something now before it gets even worse. Try drinking some water, you might be dehydrated. I know how bad having a bad head ache can make you feel, I get them everyday and it stinks.
I hope you feel better soon.

feel better!

@Becky - sorry to hear that! I always get a headache when I'm hungry; in fact, hunger is a migraine trigger for me. That's why I do max 24-hour fasts (water only, or sometimes herbal teas). I know that this cleanse does supply some calories, but it just wouldn't be a fit for me.

One diet I have tried was the "Cleveland Diet" - a low calorie 3-day regimen that allows you to eat real food but in a very specific way. It claims to dump 10 pounds in 3 days (or 40 lbs in a month), but I think that's an exaggeration unless the person has a lot of weight to lose. I didn't actually lose any weight after 3 days, but maybe it's because I'm at a stage where dieting alone will make very little difference (it's all down to the exercise at this point). I know quite a few friends who have had success with it. I wasn't hungry while doing the regimen and there are some minor variations you can make if you really don't like a few of the menu ingredients.

I know nothing about the safety of this diet, but what I liked is that you are eating normal foods so it's easier to stick with it.

You can read about it here.

the 3 day hump

Hey Becky,

Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress. As you may have noticed, I haven't been able to join you yet :( (I just can't shake this flu away), but hopefully soon! From my experience, the 3rd day was the toughest, but I'm sure you can pull through and keep going! However, you should always listen to your body-- some cleanses/diets/lifestyles aren't for everyone. Although I know a lot of people who swear by this cleanse, there are tons completely opposed to it. So, I wouldn't feel bad if you had to break the cleanse- your mental/emotional/physical state is much more important. Headache's suck majorly (I have a huge one right now), and I hope you feel better soon!!

The Cleveland Diet sounds interesting, I'm a huge supporter in eating real food (not supplements or crazy pills), and my body needs a serious detox from all of the processed food I've given it in the past month, I'm going to look into it.
