Wisdom teeth ...

I'm getting 3 of these suckers yoinked in three days. Got any good avice? Any encouragement? Any horror stories? I know the procedure is pretty routine but I've been dreading this for a while now ... I've even had dreams about it the past few nights. What's your story?

you don't wanna hear my story!

I had 2 impacted teeth and 2 simple extractions. I have yet to meet anyone who claims they weren't sore or bruised afterward regardless of the nature of their extractions. For my part, I needed 2 days or so to recover from surgery and then another week before my face was back to normal. If you have simple extractions, you'll certainly have some bruising and swelling but should be back to normal fairly quickly. Nothing a few extra strength Ibuprofen won't handle. Just expect to look like you've been in a fight. Some dentists are better than others, but they do need to yank on your tooth and your face to get it out properly. I won't lie to you; it ain't pretty. But it is over and forgotten very soon.

What kind of extractions are you facing? And how much of a wimp are you? ;-)

I'm no wimp!!

I have 2 simple extractions and one partial impaction -- blocked on one side by another tooth and blocked on the other side by my jaw bone. So for that tooth they will have to drill away at my jaw bone to make space for that tooth to be pulled out.

My biggest concern is the general anesthetic. I've been put under 3 previous times for knee surgeries and each time I've suffered immense nausea and vomiting. The last thing I want to be doing w/ 3 gaping holes in my mouth is puking! :-/

I just had tacos for lunch, chewy meat for dinner, and I had cookie dough ice cream for dessert. Time to bring on the crunchy and chewy foods while I can before ensure and jello are my best friends.
