OK, I have to share this. Yesterday I was contacted by folks at meebo (chat program extraordinaire) to participate in a study. Hot Dog! I was excited and wrote back to them w/ the information they requested. One of the things I supplied them w/ is my age. Well, I just received a reply saying,
"...we are looking for kids and young adults. Kids ages 15 to 17 who are either Meebo users or non-Meebo users as well as adults ages 18 to 25, Meebo users or non-Meebo users."
I felt sooooooooo deflated when I read that. I'm still in my twenties (barely, sshhhhh) and I'm too old to be a young adult. That's a real downer on my day. :-(

A while back people stopped calling me "Miss" and now I'm referred to as "Ma'am" or "the nice lady" instead of "the young lady". Recently in my usual grocery store they posted a sign, saying they i.d. anyone purchasing alcohol who appears younger than 40. As the cashier was ringing up my wine purchase, I rummaged for my driver's license.
"Oh, that's ok ma'am. I can see you're not underage." Thanks a lot, moron.

I know exactly what you mean. I was recently in a meeting where someone suggested I was 34 years old. I am pretty sure she was just being a serious beeach but I was offended nonetheless. And of course I'm seeing signs of aging that I never had before. (sigh!)
|Oh no! on Jun 07, 2007 @ 10:49 pm|
...speaking of feeling old, i really can't stand it when people call me maam, I dunno sounds old to me. I also I know I am getting old when...people start asking to see my ID and I say THANK YOU! Oh yeah and I think anything below 35 is a young adult... although I could be biased since I recently left the 20s and joined the 30s club.... AH WELL! As for the liquor store lady that thought you did not have to be IDed...what is she blind?!?!?! Stupid cashier. And as for the person that suggested that you were 34.... once again....very misguided. You ladies look fabulous and I am willing to be money I am older than most if not all of you! SHEESH!

You guys are swell. If edging out one more year and brinking into my thirties means I'll look half as good as each of you, then I can't wait!!
|y'all are sweeties! on Jun 09, 2007 @ 03:40 pm|
for the record, I'm 31.5. So there.

I get the "You're 'well preserved' for you're age" comment ALL THE TIME !!!! These days, I just smile and say "Thank you". It's really funny when I start talking to someone about my son (job, g'friend, school, etc) and I can see their eyes start to glaze over as they try to calculate my age, and if I reached puberty before conception !
For the record, I just turned 40 and my son turned 19 this month - I just realized HE is barely still a teen . . . . reality bites !
It's funny, when I was younger, I was always mistaken for older by about 5 years. Now I average about 6 in the other direction. Honestly, I think people also judge you by how you carry yourself and by your accomplishments. Most folks don't have it together until their 30's, so consider it a compliment if they are guessing your MATURITY and not your age.
A word of comfort to all you lovely ladies . . . beauty is ageless ;-)

Hhahahaah, MizzRobin and mamaluv you are both hilarious ... throwing in that 1/2 and those 5 days! :-P Like when you were 4, just 6 months from turning 5, you ARE 4.5, not 4. You just can't wait to be 5. Now it's 31.5, but NOT YET 32!
Thanks for the beauty/youth pep talk, Scents!!
