Baby Shower Gifts

LauraGobbo

My best friend is in her third trimester and will be having a baby shower soon. I know all the things I WANT to buy for this baby, but I want to hear from moms about what is actually helpful? What were the baby shower gifts that were valuable and useful to you? As fun as it would be for me, I don't want to stock her up on onesies and stuffed animals if there's something I can buy that will make her life easier.

Baby shower gifts

I would do a play pen that has a bassinet or I would make a big basket full of stuff they need like diapers and wipes etc

!

Just a neat idea I thought I would share, it's not a necessity item, but it was well received by guests and the momma to be. At the shower I recently attended, they asked that instead of cards, if people could buy or pass-on a favorite gently used childhood book (any age range) and sign the book as you would the card. This way the child would have a great start to their library. Everyone loved the idea and now the baby has a large variety of books, ranging in age from baby, preschool and up.

baby shower gift

Something that I needed desperately and could NOT live without, especially having triplets:

1. a baby monitor- I was always afraid of SIDS since my kids were preemies
2. a car seat- a multi purpose one that you can use inside the house as well

Diaper Castle baby gift

A friend of mine here near Toronto received a "Diaper Castle " from her parents in law. It was about 2 foot high, all wrapped up in cellophane with a bow and everything; just huge! Total focal point of the gift table! They got it from a lady Christina. Anyway maybe you could get something like that. They say babies use 8 diapers or so a day!

Go for something practical

Everyone gets blankets. I can’t count how many blankets we have. Go for something practical, like diapers and wipes, a baby monitor, bathing supplies, bottles and/or nursing supplies, basically anything that doesn’t make you think “oh, how cute!” because that’s what everyone else is getting. Especially if the sex of the baby is known. If you feel you have to get something more cute than practical, a small toy (rattle, etc.) makes for a cute gift topper.
