Poop & Sleep issues with my 9 month old!

I have a 9 month old little boy and my first concern is that he has a lot of trouble making a bowel movement- sometimes he goes almost a week without going and then when he finally does go it is a 45 minutes fight to get it out- screaming & crying, sweating so much it looks like he just got out of the bath! It breaks my heart! I have been adding extra prune juice to his morning and evening bottles (he will not drink prune juice on its own) along with 2 oz of extra water in every bottle. I switched his formula to a soy based formula as I figured maybe he has trouble tolerating dairy products like I do. And I also add a tsp of Clearlax to his morning bottle. It has been getting a bit better- but still not great- any suggestions?

Also he is a terrible sleeper. He still has yet to sleep through the nights and 2-3 evenings a night he will wake up every hour! I have no idea why! I try to fill him up on cereal and his bottle before bed, give him a warm bath in the johnsons bedtime bath, and rock him a bit! But still no luck! Any suggestions will help!

I have taken him to the doctor.. I have been mentioning this issue since he was a newborn and she pretty much says its normal and changes the subject.. I went to the pharmacy as well and they are the ones that gave me the Clearlax and said to put it in his bottle once a day. I'm beginning to think my doctor isn't all that helpful, I didn't like her during my pregnancy either! Hopefully I can find a new one because I feel so bad for my baby and I am out of ideas to try for him!

Just a thought...are you giving him iron? There is often iron in formula, and it is VERY constipation. Like the other ladies, I think your doctor sounds less than helpful. While it may be normal to only have a BM once a week (everyone is different) , it is not normal for it to be so painful. If he is having digestive issues, this may also be contributing to his sleepl problems. Any chance of seeing a paediatrician rather than your family doctor? One thing I miss about the Quebec healthcare system is having specialists available easily. I just don't trust a family doctor for specialized problems.

Poor mom

Poor guy and poor mom to my little youngest guy had this problem for a bit I put him on a low iron formula I wouldn't add more water then what is recommended this can also cause problems. I would focus on getting him to eat fruits and veggies throughout the day and the low iron formula and do some knee to belly stretches helps release the gas. The sleep is probably from him being uncomfortable. When my son was small after a warm bath I would give him a creaming and massage sometimes this can help. I know years ago when I had my first son i was told to give 2 oz of water with sugar in it I think it was a teaspoon of sugar. Anyways I do know that sometimes little one test our patience and make us zombies in the process but u r on the right page ask people dr are great but yes unfortunately some suck they think we r over reqcting or just plain don't listen some say they only have time for one concern per visit so heaven forbid u have a cold and are dying cause if u complain about the cold first odds r u would probably end up dead. Sorry there of course is good dr too try clinics sometimes it is worth the wait

You can also try tummy massages to help get his bowel movements going. You can find examples on Youtube or Pinterest. I would try to consult with a pediatrician, though as I'm sure they are better qualified to deal with infants than a general practitioner. I hope he gets better soon!

Awe poor little guy! There is definitely something wrong that is not normal and he will not outgrow this unless it's treated. I wouldnt be surprised if it's some kind of food intolerance to gluten or dairy or something! Try a new doctor and even see if you can get him in to see a Registered Holistic Nurse or something! They have the best wholesome cures for so many health issues! Good luck and keep us posted. I hope and pray you find answers and he finds some relief!

Thank you everyone for your concern and advise. I really appreciate it.
For those of you who have asked- his Dr is a pediatrician- she is the one who delievered him- but she is retiring soon so I think her mind is kind of else where!
I have been searching for another Dr. but it is really hard to find one who can take on new patients. Anyway, he has an appt on Tuesday so I will try once again to get some advice/ answers from her! If not I will seek help elsewhere (walk in clinic, or holistic nurse like suggested!)
Thank you again everyone!! :)

Water. Fruits.

My daughter had the same issues sadly for 1year &1;/2 with her pooping problem. Doctor did absolutely nothing!! My dad was giving her bottles whenever she asked for it; she was drinking more Milk than eating food. Switched from Homo Milk to 2% to 1%. She ate Prunes like candy & the juice, she ate Fibre every day but not too much as that does the same thing. Activia yogurt seem to be #1 yogurt to give. Corn Starch in Warm water. Tummy massage, move legs like riding bike. Fruits! lots of fruits! Nothing was working; even watered down her milk bottles. Poor thing would poop 1 time every 2 week of a huge solid that size of a full grown Organ with blood. I had to put Vaseline in her bum. She was getting Scared to poop and starting to hold it in as she was almost 2 years old. She was on 1% milk and i had to take her right off. She drinks alot of water and gets milk in a glass at breakfast & dinner. She poops every day now without any problems now that she doesnt get milk.
