Anne of Green Gables gets a sexy upgrade

This is the new cover art for a recent box set release of the beloved "Anne Of Green Gables" series:

Clearly someone googled "pictures of a sexy farmgirl" for this pic. Also, Anne is a redhead. It's kind of her whole identity. Her fiery personality - even her romance with Gilbert - is a huge part of that. And then there's the inconvenient truth that we first meet Anne as a 10-year-old orphan who has an imaginary friend.

Blondie with the come-hither gaze just doesn't suit. What do you guys think? Am I just being a crotchety purist or do you agree?

I'm an Islander who hasn't actually read the books, but of course I've grown up knowing Anne as a freckly redhead. I don't know what they were thinking putting that photo on the cover.

Anne updated

Anne of Green Gables is a classic and this photo reveals a great ignorance of just what that book is about, and who Anne is.Someone should be very ashamed of this lack of knowledge and respect. The marketing campaign is a bust, folks.

Omg! This was a childhood favorite for me! This is very dissappointing!

Ridiculous on so many levels..

Besides the fact that Anne was a freckly red headed little girl. They've completely ignored the fact that the series is set during the 1900's and she would not be styled like this. Clearly the person in charge never even read the books or watched any of the television series.

Pure idiocy marketing.

Whoa. What?

Whoa. Yeah, I completely agree with you.. This is clearly marketing at it's worst.

yeah i completely agree with everyone here, though I havent read the book, this is just so silly.come on now. i dont know who came up with this or approved it but they should seriously rethink it

Um... no.

This is all wrong!

I don't understand the reasoning behind this. Why did she need a makeover?

And having red hair is a HUGE part of the book so blonde hair makes absolutely no sense.

It's just the one set

Due to copyrights having run out, anybody could reprint this story and put any old cover on it so this doesn't reflect any official attempt by a reputable publisher. As far as I've heard, this is a small company that republishes other books and probably has never read the actual book. Still, it is an incredibly sloppy mistake.
