She Married Herself?!

On Oct 16, a 30-year-old Taiwanese woman decided to marry herself. Full ceremony, guests, bride, honeymoon and all.

See full news article here.

I mean, I get the statement that she's trying to make... that you have to learn to love yourself before you can learn to love others... but still... there's no "union" needed when you are already a singularity!

What do you guys think of this?

Oh dear

To be honest, I thinks she just wanted to have a wedding and that was her excuse. I mean, I totally get what she means too with the whole loving yourself first deal, and I definitely wouldn't mind giving myself a honeymoon but a wedding is a bit too much. It seems a little on the crazy side. She's a beautiful woman and I'm sure if she would've waited just a little longer she could've had an actual wedding, unless she's actually crazy. Wouldn't you think some guys would be creeped out by that?

I think this is hilarious. And sad. What an expense to go to to prove a point.

Soooo... if she eventually meets someone will she be technically cheating?

As the last sentence of the article indicates, "She also considers this marriage non-binding, meaning she is free to marry someone else but if that opportunity does not arise, at least she made the commitment to forever love herself."

soooo i guess not!

desperate means calls for desperate measures!

I guess it depends on your perspective. The way I see it; she lives in a very restricted society where a certain hard set rules are followed. A woman's goal in life is to snare a husband and pop out kids. Anything else she does is on her own time, and doesn't contribute to making he successful. If her goal in life is not achieved, anything extra she might have done on the side (such as getting an education, establishing a career) is immaterial. And I speak from experience when I say it's easier to change rules/laws than it is to change societies mentality/views. Laws/rules often are based on logic, mentality/views/etc. are not. When someone is educated, enlightened and financially established, it's much harder for that person to stand by and watch ignorant people live out, and force feed their views to others. She probably spent most of her 30 years trying to explain away centuries worth of beliefs, but it's hard to explain and make people understand what they choose to close their eyes and ears to. It's incredibly frustrating actually!!

Maybe that's why she did something so HUGE that even they can ignore? It's a sarcastic slap to society...that's how I see it anyways.

Sorry for the 'lecture' ..that's just my two cents :)

Good for her! ;D

I actually think it was a really cute idea...I think I can understand what she said about once you hit a certain age, your family may pressure you to marry, etc, etc

I, for one, am going to support her lolll :D

Her facebook page already has 3639 likes and's the 3639th ;D
