I have recently discovered a really cool "movement" on Facebook. There are very local groups which all start with Buy Nothing followed by your neighbourhood. Basically it's a closed group which only neighbours can join, and then people offer things for free to others. You can post things you want to give away, or things you may be looking for.
For instance, we just bought a new scale. There is nothing wrong with our old one, it just didn't do everything we needed. So, take a quick pic, post it in the group, and people can come pick it up, some will even deliver, as it is such a local group.
Today they are having a junk in the trunk event, which basically is a garage sale, but where everything is free.
Hope some of you chicks can benefit from this...if you need help finding it, let me know, and I can try to post some more info.

We also have something similar for my area, I believe it's called "FREE ITEMS ONLY GFW & SURROUNDING"
It doesn't hurt to type a few key words in on FB to see if your area has something like this.
Gonna go check out if we have a Buy Nothing now page!

Sounds really good

There you can find the group in your area or even start your own group.
Would love to hear some success stories....

I'm a member of a local trade group called Bunz as well, they're popular in MTL and Toronto. I traded Banana bread for an Ikea Kallax and that was pretty boss!

A very interesting idea, I try to keep it simple so I would love to be part of sth like that

We've been part of it for a year and a half so far. Our original group split into two, and the second group split into another two due to popularity. I miss the other section of our town though, and probably with being more active with reviews I don't have a lot of needs right now.
I certainly give away things we have upgraded from, no longer use, no longer fit into, etc. We literally have nothing that we would garage sale vs a year ago, we probably would of had enough for a large garage sale.
I feel it's a great way to meet your community members, help someone in need, help others save money, and just feel good that items that are in good condition and useful WILL be used by someone else.
For example, I wanted a photo booth for my Murder Mystery Party in November, and requested a big empty picture frame. The woman I got them from had two, and they had been in her basemetn for 7 years from the previous owners. I've used them for my birthday and Christmas parties, my works Christmas party and boss' New Year's Eve Party, lent it to a friend for her kid's photo booth birthday party, and Husband took it to work a few times for photo booths.
A frame that size would cost at least $75-$100, and has had so much use for $0.
