Inlaws And Outlaws

Anyone out there have any stories about a terrible mother in law? How do you handle her? It's a terrible thing when you have a mother in law that is really interfering and down right mean.

Not married but my ex's mom was always so intrusive in our relationship. I just tried to take it but sometimes you can't. We aren't together anymore needless to say for more than just that reason but it can be very difficult

I'm lucky,my mother-in-law is a really nice lady very supportive, but I know people who aren't as lucky, it would be very stressful

I had a lot of trouble with my mother-in-law at first. She was very passive aggressive which became more and more aggressive. My mother is very honest and straightforward so I didn't know how to deal with it at all. I didn't know at the time but she was going through a really tough time with a lot of debt and took it out on my husband and I who were living with her (by her invite).

She also struggled to deal with my illnesses (I suffer from SED/ARFID and depression) to the degree that my anxiety first developed when living with her and I stayed in my room all the time like a rodent scurrying back and forth.

We have a much better relationship now, but It's taken a lot of work on both our parts, with her being willing to learn about mental health and how it's not a 'choice' and me struggling to forgive her, which really required me learning to let something go, a thing I'm not so great at!

Communication and forthrightness is usually the best way to change a relationship with a person, but they often get defensive and a large amount of stubborness can be required to navigate the rocky waters to a smooth relationship! Hang on in there!

I am so incredibly happy and blessed to have an amazing mother in law who treats me like her other daughter.

I can't imagine not having that strong of a relationship :(

I hope any terrible relationships improve this year
