I am definitely loyal to my hair stylist! As long as they weren't too difficult to get to geographically, then I would stay with them. Otherwise, if they moved too far away or something along those lines, then I would ask them who they would recommend. A good stylist is always willing to recommend someone else if they can't help you, and I would trust in who my stylist would recommend, knowing that they knew what my taste and style aready was!

I do not think you have to stay true to the salon, I have followed a hair dresser to another salon before and was very happy

This has happened to me before and I didn't even think about the loyalty thing - I just went where my stylist went!! Maybe I didn't think about it because I didn't care much for the salon the stylist was working in.
But I really like the salon my stylist is at right now. The people are very friendly and their services are very good. I also love the atmosphere and location as well. I think I'd always stay with the stylist as long as he's conveniently accessible either by bus or car. I only go a few times a year, so I would make the extra effort if he does move away from the downtown core. But in the event that I can't stay with him anymore, then I'll definitely consider trying one of the stylists from this current salon before I go anywhere else.

Whenever I find someone that does a great job with my hair I will be loyal for a long time. I have followed stylists who have left salons before for this reason.

Finding the right stylist takes far too long, so I wouldn't just throw that relationship away. Each stylist is different and unique, where many salons are pretty much the same. I do believe in mixing it up every once in a while and trying someone new, because it's nice to have a fresh pair of eyes on your hair, but generally I see no reason to be faithful to a salon.

I agree with the other ladies....stick with the stylist!

I stick with the stylist too.
My hairstylist changed 2 times salons and I followed her everytime. It's a bit hard tough when she keeps going further and further.

i think this is a GREAT question! i recently went back to a salon that i have gone to in years past but my fav stylist is on maternity leave...i don't know ANY other place i trust with my hair so i went w/ another stylist & i was pleased. if i had my choice i may have wanted my regular stylist.
also...is that no awkward to ask? like ok she's not here can i get her # to contact her directly? lol they don't want to give away business right? jw

I would follow my stylist if he/she stayed within a reasonable geographic distance. If not, I would first give another stylist at the salon (if I liked it!) a try because I find that many reputable salons tend to hire people with similar skills or they mentor up their junior stylists well.
That would be very specific to the salon, though, so as I say - it depends.
