Lines were not as bad as I'd thought. They are very efficient and get you through quicker than I'd thought they would. The longest we waited was 30 minutes for a ride, but most lines have shade and they also have the ride moving through interesting things to see - like in line for Indiana Jones you are in the 'jungle' and then the Temple of Doom. My 18 month old could also go on 70% of the rides.
There is absolutely no 'skip the line' pass available for purchase. At all. I got the 3 day park hopper pass from Costco which gave us 3 days at Disneyland and California Adventure and we could go between the 2 as much as we liked. They do have a thing called a 'fastpass' on certain rides and you swipe your park pass card and get this fastpass that tells you when to come back to the ride and you just go through a different line and don't wait. A few years ago there was a skip the line pass for sale but they haven't had it in a while.
If you park in the parkade it is worth it. You get unlimited reentry that day, so you can go home and rest in the afternoon and come back in the early evening when it's cooler but not pay parking twice. There's a tram from parking to Downtown Disney, which you have to walk through to get to the gates.
Bring lunch and snacks as lunch is a bit pricey but not as much as I'd thought it'd be. We also took our daughter for a special birthday dinner at Blue Bayou which overlooks the Pirates of the Caribbean ride(which is a really cool ride). It's a very fancy restaurant but so, so delicious. Their kids entrees are actually delicious and well priced.
I loved Disneyland and can't wait to go back. No complaints at all. Staff is efficient and friendly. It's a great place for people of all ages, really. Nearly every ride is handicapped accessible.

Love all the details Kristine! This is great. I am planning on visiting Disney next year and this is such great information! I have heard it is SUPER expensive and takes several days to go through. Thanks for all the info!

Yeah, it takes a good 3 days to see everything and see both Disneyland and California Adventure. The pass from Costco is pricey but so worth it. It does end up being cheaper than buying tickets at the gate. The Costco pass also gives you one days admission to Legoland and Sea World. We rented a house nearby so we could save on the cost is f alas s eating out.
