What do you think of airbnb?

Have you tried airbnb accomodations? (Or would you try it?) Where did you go? What was your experience?

I've tried more than 6times to grab places to stay. It takes so many times for the to verify, confirm the day, execute you having the day. Plus you have to wait a day for them to respond for each action. 3days to book a room
Plus, what frustrates me more is that you ask for the days that are available on the page and then I have to wait a day for the owner to tell me that it's unavailable. I question though if they look at my Facebook profile, which they have access to, to judge if I can stay at their place. Which is stupid because that calls for discrimination.

I've had a number of friends recommend it to me. I think it really depends on how flexible you are and how many travelers.

I thought it might be a great opportunity to travel with our little family of 4 and have more of the conveniences at home, but from the research I did, found it is cheaper for us to stay at a suite at a hotel I know in a good area than book a week at a privately owned place located who knows where. So I've given up on that kind of travel.

I think it might be great if there are just two of you because it's cheaper to rent someone's condo than pay to rent a whole house in a nice area.

Used it and enjoyed it on Dec 17, 2014 @ 01:30 pm

I used Airbnb this past summer and had a pretty pleasant experience. I used it when I was in Hong Kong for just 3 nights, because a hotel was out of our budget for backpacking. The man who owned it was easy to communicate with beforehand, and he met us there with a key.

I would heavily recommend asking the owner A LOT of questions about the place if you are staying there for a long time. In our case, he didn't exactly tell us that the bathroom door was clear, and that the door itself was broken, nor that the shower head was positioned right over the toilet....
It was a funny experience, so we didn't mind, but if you are thinking about using an Airbnb ask A LOT of questions, even if they sound ridiculous!

Great alternative to a Hotel on Aug 22, 2015 @ 08:44 pm

I used airbnb this past summer to stay in Montreal. It was a great alternative to a hotel (for me) because it felt more like a cozy home. It also saved a bit of money, especially because most places have full size kitchens you can make breakfast (or any meal) in. I'll definitely continue using it.

I think they only downside is that you could come across a bad host. I didn't personally, but standards definitely aren't the same as hotel chains whom are strict to keep up a reputation. However, there are reviews you can read, which definitely made me feel more confident when choosing a place to stay.

Great info on Oct 01, 2015 @ 09:11 pm

Thanks for all the helpful info. I was thinking of using them. When I do I will keep an open mind that it might not work as smooth as it appears.

Would do it again! on Oct 06, 2015 @ 10:16 am

I used it for the first time in September. A friend and I went to Rio de Jainero, Brazil. I was hesitant because I've always stayed in hotels.

We had a great time. It worked out so well.

The amount of money we saved was totally worth it. We had a little apartment in a villa setting to ourselves. It had two rooms, a small kitchen (minus a stove) and a absolutely amazing terrace to ourselves that overlooked the ocean. I could view and hear the ocean from my bed.

The only downside (although my fit friend didn't consider it a negative ) was there were over 140 steps to get up to the place. Having said that the view was spectacular. (the ad did mention the steps when we rented it so it wasn't a surprise)

I would do it again. We choose carefully though and read the reviews. All of them. We asked quite a few questions to see if it was something that would work for us. If you do the research, it can save you so much money.

Don't think is worth it on Oct 15, 2015 @ 07:14 pm

I have tried using it a couple of times, but I find it pricey, for the price you would pay them you can go to a hotel and get things done for you instead of you doing things for yourself. Some places are extremely beautiful I get that, but I don't find it worth the price!

Love it!!! on Oct 30, 2015 @ 01:24 pm

I've used it 3 times - Canmore AB, Paris France and London UK. I've had a wonderful experience each time. I booked places that had 10 or more good reviews, lots of pictures, verified ID's and quick response times. It saved me moved on accommodations each time, saved money on meals since they each had a kitchen and I cooked breakfasts and most lunches and I always had the location I wanted. I would recommend it to anyone! I plan on using it for all my future vacations. The app is super easy and handy to use. Plus, communicating with airBNB themselves has always been very easy in my ext.
