Fake Nails

I can never get my nails to stay on for very long! What are your techniques to get them to stay on?

never had fake nails

I've never worn fake nails, my nails grow naturally long and they grow fast. People think my real nails are fake. I'm guessing the glue that's used to hold the nails down needs to be good.

I have never tried fake nails either but anyone that I have spoken to does not like them at all and say that the fake nails damage their own nails. I would rather not use them thanks!

I've never found a way to keep the ones you put on yourself on, have you tried filing them before application? Like the whole mail, not just the tips.. I've never had issues with the ones I've gotten from salons that were done professionally.

Fake nails

May I ask what type of fake nails you are applying, like the glue on kind or acrylics ?

Never tried any type of acrylics or anything like that, but I've had shellac done 3 times before, and every time they only lasted a week at the very most. I've had 3 different people apply them as well, and each time they peel in no time.
The last time, I had them done at a reputable private salon that m boss goes to all the time, and her nails last 3 weeks. I got mine done there for my wedding, and a couple of my nails peeled within 2 days. They were all gone by the time I got back from my honeymoon lol.

File your natural nails!

You have to gently file the surface of your real nails before applying the fake nails. It will hold them more longer :)

Buff and dehydrate

I wear acrylics most of the time, but it's the same for press ons.

Buff your nails before using. Use a very fine file and move it towards your cuticle. This will rough up the surface enough to get a better bond. Don't file too far into the nail, just enough to get rid of the natural shine.

Dehydrate your nails. Don't put your hands in water for at least a few hours before applying (yeah, it's hard if you have to use the bathroom just be quick when you wash). You can buy a dehydrator or I tend to use a bit of pure acetone over the nail.

Once your nails are prepped, make sure you're using a good nail glue. Some people use a double-sided sticker, which I am not familiar with, but I've heard they work well too. Don't go overboard on the glue, a little goes a long way.

Then you need to be careful. For press ons, wear gloves if you're doing dishes, don't soak your hands in water, it will break down the bond. Acrylics are much easier because if you've applied them right, you can do pretty much anything.

I find I always break or lose biogels and dip nails.
