Tell me about your tattoos and what meaning they have for you

I want to get a tattoo. I have one already, and it is across the side of my torso (not huge, but a medium sized tattoo for sure) to above my left hip. It is petals turning into sparrows, as a memorial for lost friends and family; my brother, aunt, grandpas and my dog who I had for 15 years. Tattoos for me all have to have meaning, and I like to come up with something for myself that will tell a story (even if it's just for me). But I need some inspiration to get me thinking. Do you have tatts for your friends? for a special time in your life? Tell me where/when/what/everything!

A few tattoos

I have 4 tattoos and it's true what they say...THEY ARE ADDICTING! I still would like to have at least one more, some kind of writing on the inside of my foot, maybe: Wisdom, Courage and Serenity.

I have one on my wrist, which is a Ankh (i think i misspelled it), one on my lower left abdomen which is a fairy, one on my lower back (Scorpion) and one behind my neck, between the shoulder blades (Egyptian symbol for protection)

I don't have any tattoos yet, but I do intend to get one eventually. I just find it really hard to find a good tattoo artist in Hamilton who's work I actually like and I think could do my tattoo idea justice. I would like to get a cherry blossom tree and a phoenix somehow incorporated together. The cherry blossom tree is a memorial for my dad who died of cancer 5 years ago, and the phoenix is for myself for being strong enough to move on and start my new life with my husband of 5 years. Placement wise, I'm not really sure. Maybe my upper arm, or my shoulder blade.

@jeni_fini they totally are! My first one I expected to be painful and unpleasant (it was on my side above my hip and partially on bone) but I was so lulled by the adrenaline and talking to my artist that I felt like I was half-asleep the whole time. And afterward was such a high. I have wanted another since immediately after that one! If I'm not careful, I can see myself being covered head to toe one day, haha.
I'm also incredibly interested in other people's tattoos and their reasons behind them.
@glumbumble it can be so hard once you've picked your tattoo to decide on placement. Sometimes the artist will tell you that the area you've chosen won't work well for your design as well!

I have 3 tattoos, and it is addicting. I have the spots and what I want next all written down, just waiting for the perfect time to get them.

All of mine are hidden and I got them all for me. A lot of people don't even know I have any tattoos I like keeping them to myself... Unless im in a pool!
I've gotten most of mine around the world while on vacations.

@sleepmussedhair. LOL! I know what you mean. I was scared to death of my first one. first one was on my lower back (I guess they call it a tramp stamp) and it didn't phase me hardly one bit. The seconds..Well, now that was a doosey! It was on my side, right above my hip and every time he got close to that bone...OMG! I wasn't impressed with that tattoo, as I wanted a detailed fairy, but needless to say..I can't tell where her eyes were and it's not as detailed as I like. I have found a really good artist and when I get another one, that is who I will return to.

Tattoos

I have nine tattoos so far and they all mean something personal and special. I have a cat in memory of my to passed fur-babies, a cartoon skier guy because I love downhill skiing. A pair of stick horses in memory of my best vacation ever. An arm band that is stained glass looking for fragility, butterfly for metamorphosis. A flower and the Japanese symbol for peace and harmony (the two together make the statement take the time to enjoy nature to find peace). I have music notes which is the chorus for the beer barrel polka on the accordion in memory of my Nana. And finally a stylized frog in memory of my dad.

Phoenix

I have a tribal tatt of a Phoenix on my lower back (a bit bigger than the typical "tramp stamp" size), with my initials hidden in the design.
It is symbolic, for two reasons. First, I am a firespinner. Secondly, I got it the day I made the crucial decisions I needed to make, in order to improve life for my family and myself.

MISTAKE !!!

My tattoo was a Huge mistake ! When I was young stupid and drunk .... Very Drunk ..... they should never have even tattooed me ... :( I'm 36 now and want to get it covered but now I'm chicken .... lol

I got my mom's name "Lorella" along the length of my foot in pretty cursive writing and I will always love it. My mom and I are so close and I just thought her name is so pretty not only as a name but visually it's so lovely in cursive.

Tattoos and Meanings,Decisions?

I lost my youngest Grand-Son Matthew to Neuroblastoma ( Cancer) and Lord I miss him so much every Day.Matthew was only 7 years old.I want to get a Tattoo in memory of him but,don't know what kind to get, and can anyone tell me if it hurts much to get one put on their shoulder? I want one about half the size of a Tea Cup.
