childhood memories

I'm sitting here eating some lipton noodle soup (the kind that is dehydrated and pour the contents into some boiling water) and as each warm spoonful trickles down my throat, childhood memories come flooding back. This soup is what my mom would make me when I was sick or feeling low.

What kinds of food or other stimulus are tied to childhood memories for you?

Filipino food for me...

For me it's filipino food, I am not as good as cooking it as my mother is. Whenever I smell or taste Filipino food it reminds me of being back home in Alberta and eating a warm home cooked meal. Like most parents her recipes consist of a dash of this and a sprinkle of that...so when I make the recipes it never tastes quite the same. :o( Aww...now I am home sick! Guess I should go cook myself a meal to feel better on this rainy cold day! :o)

I was frying my brain trying to think of something that triggered memories, and I wasn't getting anything. Then I poured myself a glass of warm pepsi, and thought, "Aww! Bubby soda!" My grandma always got bottles of soda on sale in insanely huge lots, and they would sit on the porch until the grandkids came. Of course, there would never be room in the fridge by then with all the jew-food, so they got poured fresh out of the bottle in to reused plastic cups.
