Please everyone send positive thoughts to the people of Fort McMurray. If you do not already know, the entire city has been evacuated due to the wildfires. Please consider donating to Red Cross. I lived in Fort McMurray for 8 of the 10 years I've been in Alberta. It was home to me. Yes, there's negative press, but people are losing their homes, businesses and all their belongings. A lot had to travel further north and many could not get out of town the only way south (towards Edmonton - where I currently reside). I can tell you that Fort McMurray is one of the most financially giving places in Canada. And now they need our help. Please go on twitter to express your support using hashtags #ymmfire #ymmstrong #AlbertaStrong #ymm #FortMcMurray and please donate to the Red Cross if you can - this is a state of emergency and currently my best friend and her family are stuck there, in the north - unable to get south out of town towards safety. I haven't heard from her in hours. It's a hellish situation - they are losing their entire city and it's not expected to improve. Many Albertans are stepping up - both individuals and businesses - opening their homes & businesses to people and pets, because pets are family too. There is no gas to get out if your tank isn't full to get to Grasslands and even then the neighboring gas stations and hotels and restaurants are out of supply. It is a crisis situation with the people left there having to ration food. I am heartbroken over this. Fort McMurray was home up until two years ago and I have so many friends and coworkers who I haven't heard from or checked in as "safe" on the Facebook page. Please send love, prayers, if you're religious, and money if you can afford it. If you live in Alberta please consider opening your home to people and / or pets who no longer have a home. #ymm #ymmstrong #AlbertaStrong #firefighters #ymmfires
