Hair Care Help Needed

Christine Kempt

I have aging hair now, still growing, still my original colour and in need of some help. I have hair that in the scalp tends to get oily and the length and ends tend to get very dry.

I am trying to find a shampoo & conditioner that easily addresses these issues. It must also be affordable as w ell due to the current financial situation.

Thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate it.

I am really glad that you asked this question because this describes my hair perfectly as well.

deep conditioning masque?

I have longer hair with really dry ends. I try to deep condition regularly, but when I've neglected it for a bit my hair definitely gets worse.

I colour my hair and the at-home kits always come with a really intensive conditioner. I normally don't use up all the conditioner after colouring and/or during the course of the month, so at least once a month after shampooing, I goop that stuff on really thick, step out the shower, bundle my hair in an old towel, and relax for a good 30 mins. Then I wash it out with the coldest water I can handle (usually I use the hand sprayer of my shower head so that I'm only rinsing my hair, not my whole body). For me this makes a big difference in the feel of the lengths of my hair!

Of course, you don't have to use colour kit conditioner :). There are lots of deep conditioning masques out there which you can try. I have also done a mayonnaise masque (literally, just cheap pantry mayo) which was quite successful. There are other DIY masques you can try from pantry ingredients, too. Just make sure you rinse those out really well. It's one thing to smell like a hair masque, and quite another to smell like a BLT.

The most important thing is to not deep condition your roots because in my experience that will make them even oilier. Keep the treatment just on the lengths and particularly on the ends for best results.

Let us know if you come across any good treatments! I'm always eager to try a new one :)
