Hey bluebie, you are on the right track by reaching out to others. In my opinion that is one of the best things to do!
When I'm down, I try to remind myself of people and things that I love and bring me happiness, whether it's a family member or friend, a pet, or even material things like getting a coffee from Tim's or watching a funny movie. It's always a good start, although it may take some time.
Give yourself some TLC, and keep doing what you're doing, talking to others. Sometimes the people in your life aren't aware, or don't know how to start the conversation. Really hope this helps, <3<3<3
I hope you're having a great day today blubie. Sorry to hear that you're going through this. I really hope you have better days ahead of you and if you ever need to talk about anything that's bothering you, know that the ChickAdvisor community is always here to help with suggestions and kind words. Remember, you can always post anonymously if you feel you want to talk about issues you don't feel comfortable doing with your username.
Personally, I would also suggest you speak to a nutritionist that will work in conjunction with your doctor. The nutritionist may suggest a special diet specific for those who suffer from depression. There are many foods and vitamins that we can incorporate into our system that are natural mood boosters and if your doctor finds any deficiencies in your blood, your nutritionist can help you figure out what foods you should eat in order to keep your mind and body balanced. I work with lots of children who have been prescribed medication for ADHD and I always suggest this to parents, as an alternative to the medication. What they usually find, is that the changes made in their children's diets has made a noticeable difference in their behaviour. It might not be a cure-all, but it's very worth the try.
Have you also tried keeping a gratitude journal? A simple notebook will do, but you can get creative and make it as special as you'd like. Write down all the things you were grateful for that day. If done on a regular basis, this can really open up our perspective to help us realize that so many good things are happening in our lives.
Prayer and meditation can also be of great help. I would also suggest looking up ASMR massage on Youtube. You might find it a little weird at first, but it helps keep you relaxed, which is great if your depression is linked with anxiety, is thought to boost your body's feeling of euphoria and reduces stress levels.
I'm proud of the way you chose to reach out to us. Although you don't know us personally and vice versa, this is a great first step. Keep doing this with people you feel comfortable with. You never know, you may just find that one person whose advice or positive words will make a world of a difference for you.
Good luck with this blubie! Remember, you're a strong, important and beautiful person. All the best!
