Ear Whooshing!?

I have had this whoosing sound in my ears for over a year now and I can not seem for the life of me to get rid of it. I have been to an ENT even, and they told me there was nothing they could do as I have not lost any hearing in my ears.

Because I have had this for so long I cant even tell if my hearing is different, other than sometimes I'll be on the phone and my hearing will all of a sudden become very amplified? I have tired hydrogen peroxide and I was told I have no extra wax or fluid build up that could be drained.

Have any of you experienced this? Can I get rid of the sound? Its driving me insane, because its so over powering that's all I can hear is the whooshing sound predominantly out of my right ear, but comes into both.

Please help!? lol

Sounds like tinnitus but I'm sure that would have been the first thing doctor's would have suspected. I know it must not be very relaxing to have a constant noise in your ears. Have you tried going to another doctor?

I had the same for a good four months and eventually it went away. I can not imagine dealing with that for an entire year :( I was in the same boat, no medical reasoning why it was happening so they couldn't help me either. I hope this goes away for you. How awful.

Sort of sounds like Swimmer's Ear...have you considered ear candling/coning?

I have a humming and whoosing noise in my ear...but I have a neurological condition....im going on 2 years of it and its literally making me insane as well...Have you had a Brain MRI? or any scans too check the vessels in the neck?

Shystarr79: I've been to see 4 different doctors, the first one told me I had a little fluid in my ear and that it would go away in time, and that is where it all started. I finally saw the ENT because all my doctors hated hearing me complain about it and told me it was nothing, and the ENT told me the same thing and to come back in 6 months.... its just driving me insane, because it doesn't go away, even if I plug my ears that is all I hear lol I guess I will never know

jcb75: If it was Swimmers Ear, I believe my doctors would have detected it, but it could definitely be a possibility. I know it's not always associated with swimming but I love to swim, and I even stopped because of this problem :( I've actually never thought of it, but the doctors that I have seen said that their is no wax build up or any excess fluid that is causing the problem so I don't know if it would help me, I will have to look further into this.

kelx: Interesting to know this! I haven't had a Brain MRI, but I do constantly get headaches more often then not, almost every day. The ENT listened to the vessels in my neck and told me that sometimes it is a thyroid problem, and my dad has thyroid problems, but every time I am tested everything comes back normal. She thinks I'm fine and there is nothing that seems a miss, but I definitely don't feel fine. I'm going to press this issue next time I see my doctor. I hope yours goes away and that you can find peace in knowing your not alone lol I'm sorry to hear you have a neurological condition, I have wondered in the past if something neurological was the cause of this for me as well.

If you think there is something wrong then keep pressing for the answers....Im going on close too 3 years of a spinal leak when all 10 specialists told me nothing was ever wrong with me....had too get diagnosed buy 2 Top US specialists at Cedar Sinai and another at Stanford Univeristy hospital....sad but true...If I would have listened too everyone saying nothing was wrong I would have gone crazy not knowing why I was so ill. I knew something was wrong but kept the fight up...still not over the fight, but at least I have an answer too why I'm so sick

Thats fine...I always like too tell people my short story just so they don't give up finding an answer because there always is an answer....The noise in my ear is also like a loud and sometimes low humming engine noise....its pretty distressing at times...so I just turn up the TV or try and do something that will occupy my mind...sitting and listening too it is the worst so just keep busy.... Are you experiencing any dizziness?? just curious

A few years back I was having such severe dizziness and vertigo that I needed a walker. I was also getting ringing in the ears on and off. They did a bunch of tests to figure out the cause and find a treatment plan. Basically, because I've had chronic migraines for more than fifteen years, they've actually caused the nodules in the top-most part of my neck to harden and calcify. Vestibular rehab (done at a physio clinic) is what helped, but I've honestly never been 100% the same since -- I end up using the walker again here and there, and I can no longer tolerate things like elevators or watching 3D movies (I was fine before a few years ago). Maybe that's something to consider, as the tests they do during the consultation can really pinpoint whether or not your symptoms are an ear issue, a spinal issue, or something else.
