Lunch ideas for kindergarten

Kaylaleecyr

Hi Ladies, my son is starting kindergarten in the fall and I'm looking for any recommendations for his lunch or ideas ? What do you mommas pack for your kids lunches ? He's not a fan of sandwiches so I am looking for different ideas. Do any of you use the yum boxes? I've been looking at maybe buying one for him!

My son is starting kindergarten too! Im super curious to hear peoples thoughts as well. My son also doesnt like sandwiches and I figured I would have to get him a food thermos and cook him food to take evryday.

That's a great idea Laura, I honestly think if I send sandwiches he just won't eat ! I've never used a thermos, would it really keep his lunch warm until lunch time if I warmed up his lunch in the morning? He would likely eat pasta dishes and left overs

I purchased one and it says it will keep warm food warm for 5 hours which will be enough to make it to lunch. I'm actually going to try out the one I purchased before hand just to make sure it works.

my son loves pasta as well and it's probably what I'll end up putting in them most often.

I tried out the food thermos today, I heated lasagna to the point where it was hot and left it in the thermos for 5 hours. When I checked it the lasagna was the perfect temperature for my son to eat so I would defiantly recommend the food thermos.

I find young kids eat more when you gove them small protions of many differnt things. It haelps them not get bored. The lock and lock containers are really good for little ones and easy to open. The only down side of having it all in one container is if they drop itthey dont have anything. I have heard from an ECE that it happened a few rimes in her class.

I agree with Mariie87. Kids need variety and in my experience as a teacher, I can definitely say that the kids who had the most variety in their lunches were the ones who would finish most, if not all, of their meal as opposed to a child who has to sit through finishing one big portion. Take inspiration from Japanese Bento boxes where they incorporate variety and color. If you want to go a step further, you can even create fun characters or designs with their food to make it look extra appetizing. Pinterest has a ton of ideas.
